Eagerly anticipated by fans, Fargo season 4 is finally arriving on both FX and Hulu - but not at the same time. Fargo, created by Noah Hawley, is inspired by the 1996 Coen Brothers movie of the same name. Though the first season derives its plot from the film, each season features its own contained arc, taking place in or around Minnesota and Fargo, North Dakota. Fargo tells tales of crime and violence, shedding light on some of the darkest parts of humanity, often to jarring and almost unimaginable lengths. Expertly balancing its dark tone with quirky humor, Fargo has a loyal fanbase that has long awaited its return.

Fargo season 4 tells the story of two opposing crime families in Kansas City, Missouri: a black crime syndicate led by Loy Cannon (Chris Rock), and the city’s Italian mafia. The series promises to explore themes of cultural identity and immigration alongside its usual examinations of violence and morality, but fans can still expect its offbeat sense of humor to play a significant role.

Fargo has long had its home both on network FX and streaming service Hulu. It originally premiered in 2014 on FX and Hulu acquired exclusive streaming rights to the show (and other FX properties) later that same year. Fargo’s most recent third season aired in 2017, and more than three years have passed before its return in 2020 with season 4. With such a long time between seasons, fans might be wondering where the new season will be airing. Fargo season 4 will premiere on FX at 9pm ET on September 27th, and will then become available on Hulu a few hours later at midnight PT (3AM ET).

Fargo boasts a stellar cast alongside Rock, including Ben Whishaw (the most recent Q of the James Bond franchise), Wes Anderson favorite Jason Schwartzman, Timothy Olyphant (of Santa Clarita Diet and FX's Justified), and Jessie Buckley (who recently appeared alongside Fargo alum Jesse Plemons in Netflix’s I’m Thinking of Ending Things).

With the growing prominence of online streaming, Fargo fans need not worry if they don’t have access to FX. Likewise, viewers who don’t have a Hulu account have the option to watch the show earlier on FX. While this means fans who watch the show on Hulu may need to take extra care to avoid plot spoilers, the wait to see new episodes will be short compared to the sometimes months-long lag time between a show’s network air date and its availability on streaming services. After such a long wait for Fargo season 4, fans will surely be relieved at the new season’s wide availability.
