A Far Cry tabletop game has been announced by board game publisher Funforge. The game has been revealed just weeks ahead of the release of the next Far Cry video game, due to launch on consoles and PC in October this year. Far Cry 6 will be the biggest game in the series to date, though it may not be directly connected to the newly-announced tabletop game.

More and more video games are seeing board game adaptations, offering everything from casual gameplay experiences for the whole family, to more in-depth campaigns aimed specifically at video game fans. Earlier this year, a Super Mario edition of family board game The Game of Life was announced, putting a Mushroom Kingdom-inspired spin on the Hasbro classic. Meanwhile, World of Warcraft fans are now gearing up for the release of a more dedicated board game experience, the Pandemic System tabletop game World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, due to launch later this year.

Making the announcement on Twitter (via ComicBook), Funforge revealed its official partnership with Ubisoft to release Far Cry Beyond. Sadly, the publisher hasn't announced any specific details on the board game, such as its gameplay, story, or style. While details are sparse, hashtags in the post confirm it will be a tabletop board game, while an image of the logo reveals it's set to release sometime in 2022. Fans are advised to keep an eye on Funforge's social channels for further updates on the upcoming Far Cry game.

Ubisoft's Far Cry series is known for offering standalone experiences and different stories per release. The numbered games in the series tend to tackle tyrannical leaders across beautiful fictional settings, including one of the franchise's most memorable villains, Far Cry 3's Vaas. However, spin-off games in the franchise, including Far Cry Primal and Far Cry: Blood Dragon, tend to take more fantastical routes when it comes to their settings, leaving the door wide open for almost any style of game for the tabletop version. The name "Beyond" suggests the board game could incorporate multiple themes and characters seen within the video games, meaning it probably won't solely be based on the next game in the series, Far Cry 6.

The Far Cry board game may be coming in 2022, but doesn't yet have a fixed release date. Thankfully, the next numbered game in the series is nearly here to keep players busy until more news from Funforge. Far Cry 6 will take players to the fictional island of Yara, where they play as guerrilla fighter Dani Rojas on a mission to save the island from the rule of dictator Anton Castillo. As the first Far Cry for new-gen systems, players can expect to see incredible graphics and new features when Far Cry 6 releases on October 7.
