The Far Cry 6 Vaas: Insanity DLC is an add-on to the original game that introduces a roguelite experience to the game. It can be accessed through the start screen and at CRT TVs within the main base camps in Far Cry 6. When starting the DLC for the first time, there will be a cutscene explaining the story. Then, the game will place players in the starting room.

There will be a tutorial teaching players the basics of the Far Cry 6 Vaas: Insanity DLC. The first room will have a Mirror and an Armory. Players can select Traits in the Mirror. Traits are permanent upgrades that can improve Vaas' survivability during each roguelite run in Far Cry 6. Players will need to earn Cash to upgrade Permanent Traits to the max level.

The Armory provides Weapons Cases, Gadget refills, and Temporary Powers. Weapons Cases are used to acquire and upgrade weapons while playing Far Cry 6 Vaas: Insanity. The Gadgets refill section is used to restock or reroll equipment and refill Healing Syringes. The Temporary Power section offers a random selection of powers or perks for sale, and it can upgrade the Power Bar limit as well. Everything in the Armory requires Cash to upgrade or purchase.

Using the Compound Home Base in Far Cry 6 Vaas: Insanity

The Compounds Offerings in Far Cry 6 Vaas: Insanity

After completing the tutorial, players will be able to freely explore Far Cry 6 Vaas: Insanity. The Compound is the starting location for the DLC and is where players will be returning often to upgrade their abilities, weapons, and respawn when they die during each run.

The Mirror allows players to choose and upgrade Permanent Traits with Cash. These include:

  • Pride: Receive Healing Syringes that replenish over time; Increase Base Health Stat.
  • Greed: Keep a certain amount of Cash after dying; Visit the last place players died to retrieve their full inventory.
  • Vaas's Wrath: Gain extra buffs and abilities when performing melee takedowns; Increase enemy detection time.
  • Sloth: Increase Healing Syringe capacity; Gain the ability to recon; Add mobility tools to a player's arsenal.
  • Envy: Add Gadget Sockets to the weapon wheel, up to 4 pieces of equipment max.

Players should plan to upgrade all Permanent Traits in Far Cry 6 Vaas: Insanity once, as this will be the cheapest option that provides the most value. Prioritizing the Sloth Trait first will give players access to all the abilities from the Main Campaign, such as a Recon Camera, Parachute, Grapple, Vehicles, and a Wingsuit. All of these will make exploring the map much easier.

After upgrading the Sloth Trait, the Envy Trait should be upgraded next, as it is the cheapest trait to max out and offers a variety of equipment to use. Gadgets are very useful for recon, trapping, and killing groups of enemies. Then, players should plan to upgrade Pride, as it will increase Vaas' health by large amounts and give players more chances to fight offensively without worrying about dying.

Greed will be one of the last traits to upgrade, as dying in Far Cry 6 Vaas: Insanity can typically be avoided by planning and good preparation. Vaas's Wrath is the last trait to upgrade. It is mostly used for stylistic takedowns and doesn't provide any significant upgrades to survivability. The one thing it does have, however, is the "increase enemy detection time" feature for easier stealth kills.

The Compound Armory and Mirror in Far Cry 6 Vaas: Insanity

The Armory in the Compound provides Weapons Cases for each weapon class in Far Cry 6. Players can unlock Cases by completing challenges. Then, they can permanently upgrade Weapon Cases to gain access to attachments and modifications. The options include:

Primary Weapon Cases

  • SMG (Submachine Gun) Case
  • Shotgun Case
  • Rifle Case

Secondary Weapon Cases

  • Pistol Case
  • Auto Pistol Case

Specialist Weapon Cases

  • Sniper Case
  • Machine Gun Case
  • Grenade Launcher Case
  • Bow Case

After upgrading a weapon case, players will have to reequip the weapon to access the upgraded versions. Weapon Upgrades in Far Cry 6 Vaas: Insanity can be rerolled at The Armory in their respective Weapon Cases. For example, inspecting the Pistol Case can reroll the Red Dot Sight to a 2x Scope on the starting 1911 pistol.

Weapon Upgrades include:

  • Damage Boosts
  • Ammo Modifications
  • Sight and Laser Attachments
  • Extra Stat Modifications

When players die or disconnect they will lose all equipped weapons. Players can unlock new Weapon Cases by completing Gun Show Challenges while exploring.

Temporary Power Pickups are Perks and abilities that can be found or purchased through the Armory. Vaas's Power Bar only holds one slot at the start, but more slots can be purchased using Cash at the Armory. Any Temporary Powers equipped will be lost after dying. Temporary Powers can be sold or replaced for Cash if players have hit the limit on Vaas's Power Bar.

Exploration, Cash, and Challenges in Far Cry 6 Vaas: Insanity

All of the Side Objectives in Far Cry 6 Vaas Insanity

When entering the world of Far Cry 6's Vaas: Insanity DLC, players should use the Main Menu Map to find Weapon Challenges, Trials, MindF***s, Safe Houses, Main Objectives, Memory Links, and a center view of their location. There will be Fog of War covering the entire Map when starting the DLC, but, as players explore, they will gradually reveal the Map.

Players can use their Mini-Map to help navigate at the start to help find new locations and objectives. The Mini-Map also shows Lootable Chests, Enemy Heat Maps, Power Pickups, and Player Markers. Safe Houses, small versions of The Compound, can be seen on the Mini-Map as Armories and Mirror icons. After unlocking them, they are permanently located on the Main Menu Map, and, if players quit in a Safe House, it saves everything except story progress. To unlock a Safe House, players will have to defeat a Boss, "Jason," in Far Cry 6 and his surrounding enemies.

It is important for players to look for and take advantage of other activities around the map, including:

  • Memory Links: Large glowing doors that can be used to fast travel and reach objectives or access new areas
  • Gun Shows or Weapon Challenges: Chests that can be opened by completing horde defense against groups of enemies. They appear as jeweled cube icons and reward players with new weapons and Weapon Cases.
  • Mindf***s: Side quests that offer storytelling elements and puzzles to solve. They appear as wave symbols and reward a large selection of Power Pickups and Cash.
  • Trials: Drink challenges that will teleport players to horde defense areas where they must fight a group of enemies until a gate opens to return to the Main Map. They appear as torch-like symbols.
  • Lootable Chests: Glowing stone boxes that contain Cash, Healing Syringes, Gadget refills, and Ammo. Players can also find Mega Chests that contain Power Pickups.

Finally, players will want to prioritize earning cash in Far Cry 6 Vaas: Insanity. Cash is used for every upgrade in Far Cry 6 Vaas: Insanity, including for Traits, Weapons, Weapon Cases, and Temporary Powers. Players can earn cash by running over killed enemies' locations, completing Gun Shows, Trials, and Far Cry 6 Vaas: Insanity Mindf*** Challenges, opening lootable chests, selling unequipped weapons, upgrading the Greed Trait, using Power Pickups that increase Cash earned, and finding Golden Animals to pet or kill.
