Some eagle-eyed gamers waiting for Ubisoft's Far Cry 6 unveiling have uncovered a possible connection to the franchise's most well-loved entry. First released in 2012, Far Cryset the tone for each entry in the franchise going forward. It established the need for larger than life villains, exotic locales, and twisty stories to tie together while still standing on their own. One of the big reasons for the game's success is Vaas Montenegro, the initial villain of the adventure that captured the hearts and minds of everyone who explored the Rook Islands.

Vaas's influence on the franchise going forward is undeniable. Both Pagan Min and Joseph Seed talk directly to the player in a manner similar to Vaas, creating an antagonistic friendship of sorts. It never works as well as it did with Far Cry 3, but it does make for an always engaging way to tell a story. Still, it seems that the franchise can't get away from its big break, and every tiny connection between the entries is cherished by a certain section of the fanbase. Fans have long wanted the character to return after his early exit in Far Cry 3, and they might just be getting their wish in a roundabout fashion.

Over on Reddit, Stubub and other fans have noticed that the child pictured on the recently revealed cover art for Far Cry 6 shares a peculiar trait with Vaas. Particularly, both the child and Vaas have a gap in their right eyebrow in exactly the same spot. They also appear to be have very similar skin tones, and the timeline would match up. Far Cry 6 leaks point to the game taking place in the 80s, which initially led to a whole line of Blood Dragon-themed speculation. However, that timeframe would fit in as a Far Cry 3 prequel, showing the dastardly pirate at a young age, perhaps before his famous madness has taken hold.

Then, there's the matter of the other man in Far Cry 6's box art. Ubisoft has already confirmed that Giancarlo Esposito is Far Cry 6's big bad, and he looms larger of the child that could be Vaas. Giancarlo's most popular claim to fame currently is Better Call Saul, a spinoff of Breaking Bad that could have even surpassed its progenitor in popularity. Another actor on Better Call Saul is Michael Mando, an actor who has had one breakout performance before the popular drama. That is, of course, Far Cry 3, where he lent his likeness and personality to the icon of unhinged madness that players know as Vaas Montenegro.

Is it an overreach to lean into the Breaking Bad connection when it comes to Far Cry 6? It's possible, but it's also possible that a star actor could vouch for his costar and get the ball rolling on something the fans have wanted for years. It's no secret that Michael Mando has wanted to return to the role of Vaas, and with Far Cry 5's mixed critical reception, it seems like the time is right to give the Far Cry faithful the story they've been asking for.
