Less than a day before its intended reveal at Ubisoft's UbiConnect event, the French version of Far Cry 6's cinematic trailer has leaked online. The week has been full of leaks surrounding Ubisoft's announcements, mostly centering around Far Cry and Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Earlier this month, rumors regarding Breaking Bad actor Giancarlo Esposito starring in a new Far Cry began to surface. Later on, an errant PSN listing in Hong Kong showcased official artwork confirming the rumors surrounding the new game. Ubisoft playfully confirmed the leak on social media, but that didn't stop the introduction to Far Cry 6's world from springing up in various places earlier today.

The Hong Kong leak provided a bit of context for the video as well thanks to some quick translation. According to the store page, Far Cry 6 takes place in Yara, a "tropical paradise frozen in time." Esposito plays Anton Castillo, the dictator of Yara hellbent to reclaiming his nation's glory. The child in the picture is named Diego, although some fans have already started rumors that he could be a young Vaas hiding in plain sight. Anton wants him to "follow in his bloody footsteps" and continue his family's rule of the region. As is often the case with dictatorships, Castillo's oppression has ignited a revolution amongst his people, leading to the events of the game.

As discovered by user Toumari on ResetEra, the trailer footage (Adblock is highly recommended for this sketchy site) showcases Anton and Diego walking through a city in clear turmoil. Anton hands his child a grenade early on and instructs him to hold tight. One wrong move and it will explode, adding tension to the French but obviously grandiose dialogue. Their stroll ends on a rooftop overlooking Anton's security team holding back the howling mob. We get repeated glimpses at a face in the crowd captured by the guards, and some in the ResetEra thread speculate that this could be confirmed playable rebel fighter Dani Rojas.

Far Cry 6's playable character debuts in a leaked cinematic trailer

One thing is clear from all the leaked information surrounding Far Cry 6. Despite outcry from some members of the community after Far Cry 5Far Cry 6 will not be shying away from a political setting. Playing as a revolutionary in what appears to be a loose amalgamation of Cuba will continue the franchise's trend of combining touchy issues with bombastic sandbox combat. Considering the previous game's popularity among the general gaming audience, this is likely a good move. Players everywhere will find out one way or the other on February 18, 2021, which the leaked trailer confirms as the game's release date.

Far Cry 6 looks to be another fine entry in the shooter franchise. With a possible urban setting to explore alongside the typical great outdoors, they'll be some gameplay opportunities that the franchise hasn't explored as of yet. The open-world formula may have lost some of its luster over the years, but with less of that type of game emerging from AAA studios recently, an experience like this is worth getting excited about. As for Ubisoft, they're likely hoping that nothing else leaks in the mere hours that remain before their digital presentation tomorrow afternoon.
