Information about Far Cry 6 recently leaked, confirming Breaking Bad actor Giancarlo Esposito will star as the game's villain. The news won't come as a surprise. Earlier this month, Esposito teased his involvement with a major upcoming game which was rumored to be Far Cry 6.

The new Far Cry 6 information leaked in advance of Ubisoft's UbiForward event scheduled for July 12. The event will stand-in for the company's E3 showcase, providing fan's the opportunity to learn more about the company's major releases, including Watch Dogs Legion, Rainbow Six Quarantine, and Assassin's Creed Valhalla – the latter of which was recently subject to a leak of its own.

Eagle-eyed Twitter users noticed the leaked Far Cry 6 PlayStation Store page. According to the leak, the game will release February 18, 2021. Additionally, the listing includes box art, featuring Esposito standing over a young boy. The translated synopsis describes the game's story, setting, and conflict – although it sounds an awful lot like the story, setting, and conflict of the last several Far Cry games.

“Welcome to Yara, a tropical paradise frozen in time. As the dictator of Yara, Anton Castillo is intent on restoring the nation back to its former glory by any means, with his son, Diego following in his bloody footsteps. Their ruthless oppression has ignited a revolution.”

The most recent Far Cry game, the Mad Max-inspired Far Cry: New Dawn, foregrounded the series' zany action by aesthetically divorcing the game from its slightly more grounded predecessors. But even with an infusion of post-apocalyptic iconography, Far Cry: New Dawn continued the series tradition of placing an outsider in the midst of a violent revolution and encouraging them to give in to their most violent instincts.

Based on the description, Far Cry 6 will follow the series well-worn narrative formula. But a good villain can buoy the blandest story. In particular, the Far Cry series thrives when charismatic actors play bombastically evil dictators (there's a reason the last several games feature the antagonist on the cover, not the player character). Nearly a decade later, every Far Cry game lives in the shadow of Far Cry 3's Vaas who's over-the-top villainy set the direction for later entries in the franchise. Esposito's credits include one of the most compelling antagonists in television history, perfectly positioning him for a starring role in Far Cry 6.
