Far Cry 6 is on the way later this year and looks to be attempting the typical Ubisoft strategy of delivering a game of a grander scale than the series' previous entry. Featuring the franchise's largest map yet, Far Cry 6's backdrop of Yara will provide players with a reportedly complex story of guerrilla fighters rebelling against a fascist regime. Though the campaign appears to be getting some extra attention, thanks to a villainous role fulfilled by Breaking Bad and The Mandalorian star Giancarlo Esposito, the typically bombastic gameplay of Far Cry will remain, with some notable additions.

Animal companions, an all new crafting system, and customizable vehicles all make the list of exciting features coming to Far Cry 6, but the most eyebrow-raising might be the inclusion of a jetpack. Guerrilla warfare veteran and ex-KGB spy Juan Cortez serves as protagonist Dani Rojas' mentor in the fight against dictator Antón Castillo. Cortez introduces Rojas to "Supremos" backpacks, which have special - and apparently very fiery - capabilities.

Some of the Supremos shown in the gameplay trailer, which were custom-made by Cortez himself, include a flamethrower, rocket barrage launcher, and the jetpack, aka Fuego Backpack. With the promotion for Far Cry 6 ramping up, a few Ubisoft developers working on the game took to the Far Cry subreddit to answer fan questions in an Ask Me Anything, including one about the jetpack's traversal mechanics.

How Jetpack Traversal Works in Far Cry 6

Far Cry 6 Jetpack and Supremo Backpacks

Far Cry 6 world director Benjamin Hall took a question about the Fuego Backpack, clarifying that it was not a glorified double jump. Instead, the Far Cry 6 jetpack "lets [players] traverse the world differently, and at the same time [it] leave[s] a blazing trail of destruction behind." Hall describes the functionality of the Fuego as a "burst," which sounds a bit more like a super jump than a double jump.

As part of what seems to be a wildly dangerous contraption, the Fuego will set fire to the immediate area around takeoff. Although one of Far Cry 6's animal companions, Chorizo the dachshund, is specifically designed to supplement stealth gameplay, the Supremos so far look to accomplish the exact opposite. Far Cry's action has long been quite over-the-top, but blazing jetpacks and back-mounted salvos are new territory. The guerrilla fighters in Yara are outnumbered by Castillo's men, however, so it appears players will be allowed to go to any means necessary to topple the regime in Far Cry 6
