Ubisoft's upcoming open-world shooter Far Cry 6 will be fully playable in co-op, according to the company. This isn't much of a surprise, as every game since Far Cry 3 has included some form of co-op, with the last few entries allowing a friend to join in and play the entire game cooperatively. Whether or not Far Cry 6 will incorporate co-op partners in a new way remains to be seen, however.

Far Cry 6 was shown off last week and got a pretty warm reception from fans and press alike. The game will take place in the fictional country of Yara, which is heavily inspired by Cuba, and it will see guerilla fighters duking it out against the country's dictator, Anton Castillo. In typical Far Cry fashion, there will be plenty of explosions, chaos, and animal companions to wreak havoc with. As per tradition, fans will also be able to tackle the game with more human friends as well.

During a fan AMA on Reddit, Ubisoft confirmed that Far Cry 6 is fully playable in co-op. It sounds like it'll still be two-player co-op, just like the last few games, and it's currently unclear if Ubisoft has found a way to work the second player into the narrative or world in a more organic way. Far Cry 6 has a huge world, so it should be fun to explore it with friends and use all of the cool gadgets and weapons to turn Yara into an exciting playground.

Far Cry's co-op offerings have been a little basic in the past, never really allowing too much depth to the experience beyond a second gun. It would be nice if Far Cry 6 fleshed the mechanic out a bit more, perhaps by adding more co-op only missions, side activities, or something else to give players an extra incentive to play it with a friend. Outside of just being something to do, there's generally never been much reason to play the games in co-op. Maybe Ubisoft will be extra generous and even offer cross-play for co-op allies.

Either way, there should be plenty of thinks to keep players busy in Far Cry 6's massive map, whether they're playing solo or with a friend. Since the gameplay itself looks like it has been enriched more than it was in the last few games, hopefully Ubisoft is planning an overhaul for co-op as well. The series has made a name for itself thanks to its dynamic and expansive sandbox gameplay, and the new leaps in technology will likely evolve that side of Far Cry 6 in ways fans have been hoping to see for a while.
