The marketing for Far Cry 6 has been stepped up a notch recently. Along with new footage showcasing some of the more bizarre weapons Far Cry 6 players can expect to wield on the game’s release, there has also been more revealed about the various characters that will be met on the fictional islands of Yara. This has included Juan Cortez, a guerrilla master and Far Cry 6’s weapons dealer, as well as Chorizo the dog and Guapo the crocodile. However, there is one character that has been noticeably absent in all of Far Cry 6’s promotional material so far: Diego’s mother.

Diego Castillo is the teenage son of game antagonist Antón Castillo. In various trailers for Far Cry 6, Diego has been shown to be severely downtrodden by his power-hungry father. Antón Castillo openly manipulates his son, proudly showing him the violence and oppression that he is causing with his governance across Far Cry 6’s Caribbean islands. This includes handing his son a grenade that is primed to explode on its release, and subjecting Diego to watching the torture of a captured guerrilla.

Even before the game’s release, Far Cry 6’s father and son dynamic is already harrowing to watch. Where Diego should be finding love and comfort, he is instead being groomed to follow on in his father’s barbaric footsteps. Should Diego succumb to his father’s will, he will become Far Cry’s youngest-ever antagonist, and the resulting gameplay will no doubt be incredibly uncomfortable for players. This really begs the question, where is Diego’s mother when all of this is going on? And, just who is she?

Far Cry 6: Who Could Be Diego’s Mother?

Far Cry 6 Dani Rojas Delivers Christmas Trees

So far, in any of the Far Cry 6 reveals, there has only been one mention of someone who could potentially be Diego’s mother. When protagonist Dani is delivering what they claim to be “Christmas trees” at one of the game’s assumed military check points, they jest that the trees are a highly valuable asset to Yara. Dani further goes on to joke “How do you think El Presidente funded Maria’s new face?” This is not much to go on, but it does heavily imply that whoever Maria is in Far Cry 6, she is romantically involved with Antón Castillo, making her a possible candidate for Diego’s mother.

However, even if Maria does not in fact turn out to be Diego’s mother in Far Cry 6, she is clearly someone that is remarkably close to the dictator, for him to have spent money on her cosmetic surgery. She is more than likely going to end up standing in players’ way during their quest to get to Antón at some point during the game. Perhaps Maria will be a boss of sorts in one of Yara’s regions and someone who will have to be removed before Dani will be able to progress closer to the Castillo family.

Wife, mother, or lover, it is likely that players will be hearing more about Maria as the release date for Far Cry 6 approaches. Whether or not Diego’s relationship with his mother is ever expanded upon, however, remains to be seen. One can only hope that the young, impressionable boy will find be able to find source of compassion and love as Far Cry 6’s story progresses, and that there will be joy once more in his future.
