The long running first-person shooter series is returning this October with Far Cry 6. Boasting some star power with Giancarlo Esposito - of Breaking Bad fame - as the main villain, Far Cry 6 is shaping up to be a big return to an exotic locale for the series. Players will be in control of Dani Rojas, Far Cry's newest voiced protagonist and native freedom fighter attempting to topple the regime of Antón Castillo (Esposito), which rules over the Caribbean nation of Yara.

Though many games in the Far Cry series have the player participating in some sort of rebellion, Far Cry 6 is heavily focusing on its guerrilla warfare topic through gameplay and not just narrative. As such, Far Cry 6 appears to have the most expansive crafting system yet implemented in the franchise. Ubisoft recently showed off a quite lengthy Far Cry 6 gameplay showcase, which gave fans a sneak peak into some of the more inventive weapons that can be crafted, such as a CD launcher that plays "Macarena" and a minigun built out of motorcycle parts.

Yara has been isolated from the international community ever since a revolution gripped the country 50 years prior to the events of Far Cry 6. Resources are limited for the guerrilla fighters, and many available firearms are dated, meaning homemade attachments have to be built in order to achieve specialized variety in weaponry. Lead game designer David Grivel told GameSpot that weapon and vehicle customization was a central tenet in creating the crafting system in Far Cry 6.

Custom-built Weapons Can be Crafted in Far Cry 6

Crafting Custom Weapons in Far Cry 6

One of the main categories of items in Far Cry 6 is called Resolver. Castillo's army has modern weaponry, and those can be taken from them, but the guerrilla fighters often have to resort to custom-built Resolver firearms. Players will be able to create their own weapons out of scrap. Far Cry 6 is reportedly leaning further into RPG territory, where loadout and player customization will have a greater role, providing more build variety. A simple handgun can be modified into a machine pistol with various attachments, or a flamethrower can be built out of scavenged junk.

Grivel says that "customize" was the key word for developers when designing Far Cry 6, and this combined with the large open world of Yara looks to be attempting a rather significant evolution of the series' formula. Makeshift attachments for more traditional weapons can be made as well, and vehicles will also have customization options. Crafting has been available in previous entries, but without the freedom that will allegedly be present in Far Cry 6, which Ubisoft is hoping will lead to more variety in play styles.
