Far Cry 6 continues the franchise's tradition of enlisting local wildlife to assist players in combat, but some companions are far more useful than others. Far Cry 6 equips players with various weapons and tools to complete objectives and win battles. Similarly, each animal companion complements a different playstyle and utilizes unique abilities to defeat enemies, find or gather resources, stun opponents, and more. Far Cry 6's animal companions are called Amigos and are unlockable throughout the game's primary campaign, side missions, and DLCs.

Unlike other Far Cry games, players exclusively receive animal companions rather than humans. Part of this is due to the importance of human numbers in the guerrilla forces against the military of Anton Castillo, Far Cry 6's main villain. The game itself has received mixed reviews from fans due to a lack of Italian translation and failure to innovate on the franchise's existing systems. Thankfully, the Amigos - animal companions - are a step in the right direction and offer an entertaining strategy to utilize in combat.

There are currently seven Amigos to recruit, including a crocodile, dachshund, rooster, some panthers, and some familiar characters from old Far Cry games. Most creatures are native to Yara, Far Cry 6's chosen setting, though some are heartwarming callbacks to previous titles in the franchise. Though each Far Cry 6 animal companion is equally adorable and offers deadly potential, some are far more effective in combat than others. Thankfully, players can pet and interact with every Amigo, making them a valuable addition to the fight for Yara's freedom.

#7: Far Cry 6's Chorizo Is Adorable But Doesn't Do Much Else

far cry 6 chorizo dog

Chorizo was Far Cry 6's poster dog and the most beloved Far Cry 6 Amigo in promotional materials. His lovable baby eyes make this dachshund one of the cutest animal companions to ever join the Far Cry franchise. Chorizo's "Attention-Seeker" perk weaponizes his adorable appearance, distracting enemies until Dani can perform a stealth kill. Unfortunately, most of Chorizo's abilities focus on gathering resources, making him one of the weakest companions in combat. His "Bloodhound" ability tags resources instead of enemies, and "Yes, You Can" enables Chorizo's health regeneration only when Dani pets him. "Keen Senses" is occasionally helpful in locating hidden resources, but Chorizo would do better as a pet than a guerilla's fighting animal companion.

#6: Far Cry 6's Guapo Is A Good Companion To Start With

far cry 6

Guapo is one of the first Amigos that can be recruited and is also arguably the most self-sufficient. Unfortunately, his power level is significantly weaker than Far Cry 6's other animal companions. Guapo's "Ancient Survivor perk" equips him with passive health regeneration while out of combat and enables self-revives while feasting on dead enemies.

Unlockable traits increase this perk's usefulness, with "Body Regulation" automatically initiating health regeneration and "Reptile Metabolism" refilling 90% of his maximum health after a successful revive. Guapo's "Cornered Beast" ability is his most valuable, increasing damage resistance once his health reaches 50% or below. Unfortunately, Guapo lacks reliable takedowns and executions, which threatens Dani's safety during stealth-oriented missions.

#5: Far Cry 6's Chicarron Punks His Enemies

Far Cry 6 Rooster Amigo Fang For Hire

Chicarron features unique designs alongside K-9000 for Far Cry 6's Amigos. This rooster is decked out in punk jewelry and dyed feathers, making its design far more beautiful than the average Yaran chicken. Though Chicarron is one of the smallest Amigos, he has immense rage and is extremely deadly to enemies. Chicarron's "Angry Bird" perk allows him to fling himself at enemies from a greater distance than other Amigos and can knock them down once players unlock his "Angrier Bird" ability. The "Roid Rage" ability increases the damage output and attack speed of this terrifying rooster, making him far more efficient in combat. Chicarron's final unlockable ability is "Chicken Feet," which increases the chance to dodge his opponent's next attack.

#4: Far Cry 6's Boom Boom Is A Blast From The Past (With Presents)

Far Cry 6 Boom Boom

Longtime fans of the Far Cry franchise may recognize this friendly pooch as Boomer, the Deputy's (the Judge's) trusted companion in Far Cry 5. It's unknown how the beloved dog made his way over to Yara, but he's eager to lend a hand (or paw) in combat once more. Boom Boom's "Fetch, Boy" perk allows him to retrieve resources from dead enemies, but his unlockable abilities are where his usefulness shines.

"Pointer" enables Boom Boom to mark hostiles, giving players vital information on foes' movement routes and locations. "Expert Tracker" increases the effectiveness of this ability, allowing Boom Boom to locate enemies from a greater distance than before. "Thick Coat" is by far his most helpful ability, increasing the amount of damage Boom Boom can take. Like most Amigos, Boom Boom is also able to perform takedowns on enemies when commanded and can utilize information he's supplied to the player to ensure success.

#3: Far Cry 6's Champagne Gets Players Rich Quick

Far Cry 6 Champagne

Unfortunately, not all players can access this majestic white panther, as Champagne is exclusive to Far Cry 6's VICE Pack DLC. Champagne is the only female Amigo and emphasizes resource retrieval and counter-attacks on her enemies. Her prior perk is "Status Symbol," which allows her to collect more Yaran Pesos from defeated opponents. Champagne benefits from Dani's wealth with "Greed Is Good," which increases the success rate of her takedowns. "Predatory Instinct" allows players to fill their pockets more readily, as Champagne can loot enemies after killing them with a silent takedown.

Finally, the "Sonic Snarl" ability equips Champagne with a counter-attack which all other Amigos lack. When Champagne takes damage while equipped with "Sonic Snarl," she unleashes a roar that knocks opponents to the ground and allows Dani to finish them off. Players quick on the draw can take advantage of Champagne's rage and get rich doing it.

#2: Far Cry 6's K-9000 Terminates All Its Foes

K-9000 the robot dog in Far Cry 6

K-9000 is another extremely useful Amigo in Far Cry 6 blocked behind a paywall, forcing players to purchase the Far Cry 6 Blood Dragon Pack on the Season Pass to access him. His design as a robot dog is sleek and stylish, giving Yara's tropical scenery a unique sci-fi theme. The "Iron Skin" perk equips him with an automatic resistance to bullet damage and total immunity to poison and fire, making him more powerful than other Amigos. His "Enhance" ability alerts players to security cameras, alarms, tripwires, and turrets, while "Enhance!!!" enables K-9000 to inflict more damage on tagged enemies.

His third and final ability is slightly sad but ensures K-9000's effectiveness even in death. "Termination Protocol" initiates K-9000's self-destruct, turning the beloved canine into a bomb once he receives would-be fatal damage. Thankfully, like the other Amigos, players won't lose K-9000 permanently and can enjoy the devastating damage while awaiting a time to summon K-9000 to their side again.

#1: Far Cry 6's Oluso Is The Deadliest Amigo

Oluso the panther in Far Cry 6

Oluso is the most valuable and effective companion found in Far Cry 6's Yara nation. This black-spotted panther can assist Dani in eliminating entire outposts before any enemies are aware of the threat. His "Shadow Strike" perks make him the perfect accomplice for stealth-oriented players, whisking enemy bodies away in a burst of smoke and ash to eliminate any trace of his actions. Oluso's unlockable abilities only improve his stealth capabilities and make him a deadlier opponent in combat while also increasing his survivability.

"Mimo Abosi's Luck" ensures Oluso's takedowns are more successful and unlocks after killing twelve enemies in a restricted zone. "Rage of Ida" makes enemies flee in terror after a successful takedown, pairing nicely with other abilities in Oluso's kit. "Mist of Oku" makes Oluso immune to damage, less detectable than usual, and enables automatic health regeneration - making him the best animal companion in Far Cry 6 right now.
