The Lord Of The Rings is a classic film series that is well known for its incredible locations and great characters. It's arguably one of the best fantasy film franchises of all time and has a huge following, even though The Fellowship of The Ring was released 19 years ago. It's a cultural phenomenon that still remains relevant today.

While there are many great fantasy films like The Lord of The Rings to dive intothere are also some brilliant quality TV shows from the last few years that any fan of The Lord of The Rings would definitely enjoy.

The Witcher

The Witcher is a fantasy series based on a book series of the same name. It was released on Netflix last year and is still very popular.

It follows the story of a lone monster hunter called Geralt, who is a mutant with special powers. It's a lot of fun and worth watching if you're a fan of monsters and magic. A second season is due to be released in 2021, which gives everyone plenty of time to catch up.

Game Of Thrones

Jon Snow and Danaerys in Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones is probably the most popular and well-known fantasy series out there, and while it ended in 2019, there is still a huge fan following around it and spin off's to add to the universe.

It's about a battle between nine families over the land of Westeros, and it's probably the closest thing to a more violent version of The Lord Of The Rings.

Once Upon A Time

Once Upon A Time is also a great series, mainly for it's referencing almost every Disney movie there is.

It's about Emma Swan, a woman who comes to the town of Storybrooke, where she finds out that she's the long lost daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming. The town is cursed and no one remembers the fact they were once part of a fairytale. It's super fun and entertaining, especially when a new character comes into the mix.

Outlander

Outlander is a fantasy series, mainly because of its time-travel qualities. It's about a woman called Claire who is a nurse during the Second World War.

She somehow ends up going back in time to the year 1743 in a war against the British and the Scottish, and because she's British it adds another set of problems. It's got violence, romance, and time-travel and there are already five seasons to catch up on.

The Mandalorian

the mandalorian

The Mandalorian is the newest addition to the Star Wars universe and is about a Mandalorian who, on a mission, finds a creature that makes him question his loyalties.

With a second season on the way, it's pretty popular, and if you're a fan of The Lord of The Rings and are looking for something different to watch, it's a very good choice.

Cursed

Cursed is a recent Netflix original series that is about the legend of Merlin and Excalibur but instead, a woman called Nimue discovers the sword. Nimue has powers that cast her away from the rest of her community, but she goes on a quest with a young man named Arthur in order to seek out Merlin and deliver the sword to him.

It's a cool reimagining of the original story that's dark, at times, but Nimue is a great character and the series presents a fun concept.

Reign

Reign is a historical drama based on the life of Mary, Queen of Scots when she arrives in France and gets married.

It's quite far from the actual story and isn't always historically accurate, but it's good fun and has a lot of drama to get invested in, with good characters and a solid plot that makes it entertaining to watch.

The Last Kingdom

The Last Kingdom is more historical than fantasy, but it's still a good choice for any fan of The Lord Of The Rings if they are looking for something to watch.

Based on a book series, it's about a young Saxon who gets taken as a child by Danes during a raid. The series is full of drama and battles, and while there are fewer fantasy elements than The Lord Of The Rings, it's still worth watching.

Vikings

Vikings

Vikings is actually quite a similar show to The Last Kingdom, except it is more focused on Norse mythology. It tells the story of a Norse hero called Ragnar Lothbrok, a farmer who is raised to be a warrior and becomes the leader of the Viking tribes.

This series is also a must-watch for Lord Of The Rings fans, especially for those who appreciated the big battles in the film trilogy.

Merlin

Merlin is a British fantasy series about King Arthur and Merlin. The retelling of the story focuses on Arthur and Merlin as young men in the lead up to what we know as the legend of Camelot.

It's a classic series that was very popular while it was gradually released, and while it's on the magic side of the fantasy genre rather than being violent, it's a brilliant series that has five seasons worth of content to dive into.
