After reacquiring the rights to the characters in Disney’s merger with 21st Century Fox, Marvel Studios will be introducing the Fantastic Four into the MCU within the next couple of years. A reboot of the Fantastic Four franchise is in development with Spider-Man director Jon Watts on board to helm the project and Marvel mastermind Kevin Feige producing.

While this movie should focus on the Fantastic Four themselves as it covers their origin story (and also explains how they fit into the wider MCU), there’s a ton of potential for exciting team-ups in the movie’s inevitable series of sequels and spin-offs.

Ant-Man

It’s unclear when the Fantastic Four reboot will take place. Traditionally, they should be among the oldest, most experienced heroes in the MCU, so the story could go back to the 1960s.

In the comics, the Fantastic Four have teamed up with Ant-Man a bunch of times. Reed Richards and Hank Pym were colleagues in their heyday, and Scott Lang became the team’s technical advisor during a period when Reed was presumed dead.

Luke Cage

Now that the rights to all the Marvel characters featured in the short-lived MCU Netflix shows have reverted back to the homestead, it would be a shame if Kevin Feige doesn’t do anything with all the fan-favorite incarnations of iconic superheroes like Daredevil and the Punisher whose arcs have yet to be properly concluded.

Hopefully, at some point, Mike Colter’s Luke Cage will make the transition to the big screen, and when he does, he should team up with the Fantastic Four. In the comics, Reed Richards briefly hired Cage to replace the Thing as their resident strongman when the Thing lost his powers.

She-Hulk

Bruce Banner’s similarly superpowered cousin Jen Walters, better known as the She-Hulk, is set to join the MCU in her own Disney+ series. As a lawyer who represents superheroes in court, there’s a lot of potential for She-Hulk to cross over into other Marvel projects.

In the comics, She-Hulk joined the Fantastic Four after the events of Secret Wars left Ben Grimm trapped on Battleworld. Orphan Black’s Tatiana Maslany is set to play the character in the MCU.

Thor

Thor is set to pass on the mantle of God of Thunder to his ex-girlfriend Jane Foster in Taika Waititi’s upcoming sequel Thor: Love and Thunder, but hopefully it won’t be the last fans see of Chris Hemsworth’s Odinson.

His team-up with the Guardians in Avengers: Infinity War proved that crossovers can do wonders for the Thor character, and Hemsworth shares terrific chemistry with basically every actor he works with.

Namor The Sub-Mariner

Namor and the Fantastic Four

Namor the Sub-Mariner is essentially the Marvel universe’s answer to Aquaman, as he’s the ruler of Atlantis who fights crime underwater. He often teams up with the Fantastic Four and flirts with Sue Storm, much to Reed Richards’ chagrin.

While both incarnations of Fox’s Fantastic Four franchise forced a love triangle between Reed, Sue, and Doctor Doom, neither of them used the actual existing love triangle with Namor.

Storm

Storm, Black Panther, and the Thing have a conversation in a Fantastic Four comic.

Although the Fantastic Four are being introduced first because it’s easier to integrate four people into a big ensemble than an entire race, Marvel also reacquired the rights to the X-Men in the 21st Century Fox merger, so mutants are coming to the MCU, too.

There are a few opportunities for crossovers in the X-Men and the Fantastic Four both joining the MCU. Storm joined the Fantastic Four when Sue decided to take a break after the devastating events of Civil War.

Agatha Harkness

Kathryn Hahn as Agatha Harkness was the breakout star of WandaVision. After building a mystery around the character for a few episodes, the show revealed her to be a witch from the Salem Witch Trials – and one of the MCU’s greatest villains.

In the Fantastic Four comics, Reed Richards and Sue Storm unwittingly hired Agatha as a nanny to look after their young son Franklin.

Silver Surfer

The Thing and the Silver Surfer

There’s already been a team-up of the Fantastic Four and the Silver Surfer on the big screen, but with its lackluster script and depiction of Galactus as a gas cloud, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer was pretty disappointing.

With Kevin Feige at the helm, the MCU can offer an on-screen portrayal of the Silver Surfer – and his relationship with the Fantastic Four – that lives up to the source material.

Daredevil

Just as it would be great to see Mike Colter back in the role of Luke Cage on the big screen, it would be great to see Charlie Cox return to the role of Daredevil in a movie, too.

As a fellow New York-based superhero, the Man Without Fear has teamed up with the Fantastic Four a bunch of times in the comics, and it would make a lot of sense to see him team up with the Four in the greater MCU too.

Spider-Man

Spider-Man has teamed up with the Fantastic Four in a bunch of comic book storylines over the years. Peter Parker is one of the few heroes that have come close to becoming the official fifth member of the team. As anyone would expect, Spidey has a hilarious dynamic with each member of the team – particularly the cocky, abrasive Johnny Storm.

With Jon Watts of the MCU’s Spidey solo trilogy directing the Fantastic Four reboot, a crossover in which the web-slinger joins Marvel’s first family seems inevitable.
