Warning: contains preview images for Fantastic Four: The Reckoning War #1!

Over the last 15 years, current Fantastic Four writer Dan Slott has been laying the groundwork for an event called The Reckoning War and now Marvel has released a special trailer for the event. Slott has been seeding The Reckoning War across the various Marvel titles he has written, and now fans will be rewarded for their patience when the first issue of Fantastic Four: The Reckoning War goes on sale in print and digital this February.

Dan Slott began building towards The Reckoning War early in his Marvel career, on acclaimed books such as She-Hulk. The hints were vague, merely alluding to a “Reckoning” on the horizon. Slott would continue to drop sporadic hints across other titles, and when he took over writing reins on the Fantastic Four in 2018, he began building towards it in earnest. Last year, Uatu the Watcher, who will play an integral role in The Reckoning War, returned to the Marvel Universe, warning of a “reckoning.” Uatu disappeared and has been laying low since. While Marvel has still been mum on exact plot details, it is known that the Fantastic Four, She-Hulk, the Silver Surfer and other cosmic characters will be involved. Advance art has also revealed the X-Men and Spider-Man will be involved. Fans clamoring for a better look at The Reckoning War are in luck, as Marvel has released a new trailer for the event. The first issue is written by Dan Slott, with art by Carlos Pacheco and Carlos Magno.

The trailer was uploaded to Marvel’s YouTube account. Using already existing promotional art, the trailer adds new footage, showing Spider-Man saving a woman, as well as the Fantastic Four and the X-Men in action. The trailer warns “The Reckoning War is nigh” and “only the Fantastic Four can save us.” The trailer shows more scenes from the comic, spotlighting the saga’s other players, such as Doctor Doom, Victorious, Uatu and the Silver Surfer. The trailer concludes with a look at the first issue’s cover.

Dan Slott has been building towards The Reckoning War for not only his entire comics career, but most of his life as well. He has told readers that the idea for the story came to him as a child after reading a Fantastic Four story and wanting to know more. This is Slott’s passion project, the culmination of more than a decade’s worth of stories, and he is pulling out all the stops.

With its intense music and visuals, the trailer lets fans know exactly what is at stake in The Reckoning War—the fate of the Marvel Universe itself. The Fantastic Four will have the fight of their lives on hand.
