If Marvel Studios asks Matthew Vaughn to reboot the Fantastic Four, here is how he would do it. The Fantastic Four are some of Marvel's oldest and most famous characters, but they have not received proper treatment on the big screen. Fox and director Tim Story first brought Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch, and The Thing to the big screen in 2005. The family-friendly approach was successful enough to warrant a sequel, but many fans felt like there was still something missing from their live-action debuts.

Fox attempted to reboot the property in 2015 with a talented young cast featuring Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, Miles Teller, and Jamie Bell, but a troubled production and conflicts with director Josh Trank hurt the final product. Fantastic 4 was a critical and financial bomb and saw Fox put the property on ice once again. X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn was a producer on the project, and there were even rumors he was the one who directed the significant reshoots, which Trank denied.

Vaughn was still heavily involved with Fantastic 4 though, and when Screen Rant recently spoke to him, we asked if he'd be interested at taking another shot at the property now that Marvel Studios has control of the characters. He said "never say never" and that it would "be an honor" to work with Kevin Feige and the Marvel Studios team on a reboot, but what would his approach be? A favorite Pixar movie.

For me, do the live-action version of The Incredibles. A proper spectacle film about a dysfunctional family.

Fantastic Four

For many fans, this approach is what they've been dying to see from the Fantastic Four on the big screen. The characters are Marvel's First Family, and an Incredibles-like approach could be exactly what they need. The major differences would likely be that the Fantastic Four roster aren't family members other than Sue and Johnny Storm. That said, Vaughn could mean he would take the angle where Reed Richards and Sue are already married, were superheroes before, and now have their superpowered kids, with Johnny and Ben Grimm serving as Frozone-type family friends.

Regardless of whatever specific approach Vaughn would take on Fantastic Four, it remains to be seen if he will get the chance to do it. He's completely invested in the Kingsman franchise at this point and is hoping that Disney can work with him to make it the giant universe he envisions it to be. He could be too busy with that universe to go back to Marvel, but as he said, the prospect of working with Feige could be too good to pass up. Vaughn could get the best of both worlds by just serving as a producer on Marvel Studios' inevitable Fantastic Four movie. Even if he isn't involved at all, hopefully, this type of approach is what Marvel is thinking for the Fantastic Four in the future.
