The director of Fant4sticthe 2015 attempted reboot of The Fantastic Four's film franchise, has released a review of his own movie. The film has been said to be somewhat of a darker take on the characters than in previous iterations, and although there were some things Fant4stic did right there were many, many more aspects included which the film ultimately could have done without.

The Fantastic Four has occupied a strange place in the realm of comic book movies, with none of the movie depictions ever reaching the same amount of fan engagement as other Marvel Comics groups like The Avengers or The X-Men. Although a number of films based on the four heroes have been released since the golden age of comic book movies (which arguably started with Bryan Singer's X-Men) began, each and every attempt has seemingly fell flat.

Now, in a feat of bravery, the director of Fant4stic, Josh Trank, has reviewed his own film four years later, and published the entire review on LetterboxdAccording to Trank, although he was only twenty-nine years old and the Fantastic Four film was his second movie, he doesn't regret any of it. "Everyone in the film is a great actor," Trank said. "Everyone who worked on Fant4stic clearly wanted to be making THAT movie. But.... ultimately... It wasn't."

Fantastic 4 How To Relaunch MCU

"Did I make the movie they deserved to be in? To be honest? I can't tell." Director Josh Trank went on to reference the now legendary want for a Snyder Cut version of Justice League, asking the theoretical question "Is there a #releasethetrankcut? Doesn't matter. I'm not Zack Snyder." Snyder, Trank goes on to say, is iconic, legendary, and stoic, while Trank said he was in a situation more complicated than anything a second-time filmmaker should have ever walked into. That all being said, however, he doesn't regret any of it. "It's a part of me," he said. "And I just hope Peyton Reed makes the next Fantastic Four and crushes it. And that I get a cameo."

Currently, Screen Rant is predicting that a new Fantastic Four movie will release sometime around July 2023, giving prospective actors, writers, and directors all plenty of time to figure out just how exactly to properly translate one of Marvel's most well-known comic book heroes to the big screen. Although they were left out of the initial MCU film offerings, Disney now owns 20th Century Fox, which means characters like The Thing and The Human Torch are all up for grabs. Only time will tell if the Fantastic Four will show up in Marvel's Phase Four...although...well, it's obvious.
