It seems that a previous quote by Ioan Gruffudd (who plays Mr. Fantastic) stating that Galactus would not be appearing in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer seems to have been incorrect. Whether this was by design or ignorance, I don't know. Considering that the Silver Surfer is the herald of Galactus, it seemed odd to me that the big guy wouldn't be in the film... especially with the sound bite in the latest commercial where they say that eight days after the Silver Surfer shows up on a world, it's destroyed.
But today, posted on Tim Story's Myspace blog:
"We haven't finished the design of him/it so be careful about what you read and believe. Trust me...no one knows. One things for sure, you can expect to see him/it. It will be pretty powerful. I'm having a lot of fun with the concept and believe me - MOST will be satisfied."
A couple of things come to mind:
2. It will probably only be a "cameo", or else he would have figured more prominently in the title of the film and the ad campaign.
3. The film is 3 1/2 months away from opening and they're still working on the design?
Number three above is a bit scary and leads me to believe that there will not be much screen time for the Devourer of Worlds. I would imagine he'll be CGI as it takes a lot of time to render photorealistic characters.
Overall I'm a bit excited to see this sequel because I'm hoping that it will be better than the first one, which was pretty weak.
