All five Fantastic Beasts movies will take place in different cities, director David Yates has confirmed. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them heralded a new chapter of J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World, taking us back in time to 1920s New York City. With a five movie arc planned, the first movie, which starred Eddie Redmayne as Magizoologist Newt Scamander, set up the story of dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald's (Johnny Depp) rise to power.

The second installment in the franchise, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, picks up with the dark wizard as he travels across Europe, building his army of followers. The location of the movie has already been confirmed as London and (mostly) Paris, and now Yates has confirmed that the change in location will continue for the remaining three movies planned.

Speaking to EW, the director also added that Rowling has already disclosed the location of the third movie to him:

“Jo’s already told us where the next one is taking place. It’s very exciting. This is a global story, ultimately. And given that there’s a global audience for this, it’s all the more delightful to take the story to different parts of the world.”

Speculation immediately begins about exactly what countries and cities could be used, of course. A very logical choice would be Germany, given that the legendary duel between Grindelwald and Dumbledore (Jude Law) took place in 1945, so Berlin might well be a focal point for the final movie in the franchise. But before then? Well, Grindelwald's followers were mainly European, we are led to believe, so maybe we will travel to Italy or Spain, but given that Yates talks of Fantastic Beasts being a "global" story, it seems likely that we will also see other continents too. Could we get to know more about the Wizarding World in Africa, or Asia? Maybe a quick stop in Australia will be on the cards too.

This global story is exciting for many reasons, not least because it will give Rowling the opportunity to further expand her wizarding world, as well as a chance for us to meet an even more diverse range of characters. It's unlikely we will know the location of the third movie anytime soon, but the European location was one of the first things we knew about The Crimes of Grindelwald, so watch this space. In the meantime, The Crimes of Grindelwald is set to introduce us to a young Albus Dumbledore, as he tries desperately to prevent his former friend from embarking upon a reign of terror.
