Consisting of only 7 episodes, the first season of Family Guy is its shortest. Peter, Lois, Stewie, Cris, and Meg are only provided with limited time to make viewers laugh but they impress nevertheless. The rest of the seasons have an average of 20 episodes, thanks to the animated sitcom's increasing popularity over time.

Despite the limited content, the season is packed with creative jokes. The unfiltered humor is what made the show stand out in the first place. While some jokes are easy to brush off, some quite feel tasteless now even though they might have been considered too good at the time the season aired.

Peter Makes Fun Of Jesus

Peter in church

In the pilot episode, Peter asks Lois for permission to go to a stag party. Lois is reluctant to let him go because he tends to get embarrassingly drunk. She reminds him that he once got drunk from holy communion in the church.

A cutaway gag shows Peter gulping on holy communion. Impressed at the high alcohol content, he asks the priest if it's really the blood of Christ. The priest confirms that it indeed is the real thing. Peter yells "That guy must've been wasted 24 hours a day." Well, such a joke isn't likely to go well with Christians in this day and age.

The Awkward Cinema Laughter

Pilot - Family Guy

Peter and Lois pass by a theater to watch the Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington movie Philadelphia. The whole audience appears emotional. The movie's HIV/AIDS and LGBTQ themes touch everyone in attendance, leading them to shed tears. However, Peter doesn't get why there is such a somber mood.

When Tom Hanks' character Andy says he has AIDS, Peter bursts out laughing and the whole audience stares at him in bemusement. According to him, everything Hanks says is funny, no matter the circumstances. Peter's claim doesn't stick, considering the fact that Hanks isn't even a comedic actor and the topic at hand is anything but laughter-inducing.

Johnson Creates Jewish Toy Soldiers Holding Bagels

Peter Griffin in Family Guy

After a night of drinking Peter heads to the Happy-Go-Lucky toy factory but can't work properly because he is down with a hangover. Mr. Weed begins checking on employees and when he asks Johnson what he is up to, he declares that he has created a new G.I. Jew toy that's obviously a parody of G.I Joe.

The toy soldier happens to be holding a bagel, something which might be considered racist. Johnson really didn't need to name a toy after a race. Neither did he have to use a bagel.

Peter's Shoulder Devil Tells Him It's Okay To Lie To Women

Shoulder angel and shoulder devil in Family Guy

After failing to do a proper safety inspection on toys at the Happy-Go-Lucky factory, Peter gets fired. He is afraid to tell Lois that he got fired because of negligence caused by drunkenness.

A shoulder devil appears to Peter and suggests that he should hide the truth. The devil tells him it's okay to lie to women because they are not like men. Peter isn't so sure so he asks for the shoulder angel's suggestion. Unfortunately for him, the shoulder angel is stuck in traffic on the angelic highway. Peter thus decides to go with the lies. The joke isn't such a great fit in a world championing gender equality and mutual respect.

Stewie's Birth

As she looks forward to Stewie's first birthday, Lois reminisces about the day the notorious baby was born. A cutaway gag shows that Lois was more than excited to give birth.

However, once Stewie was born, the mood in the room changed. Doctors had just found him with a map of Europe. On the map, Stewie had marked several countries that he was planning to bomb. Given the number of terrorist attacks that have occurred in the world since the first season aired, that joke doesn't sit right.

Lois And Peter Fat-Shame Each Other

Peter Griffin and Lois Griffin

Peter becomes angry at Lois for buying so much food. His anger stems from the fact that his income has been affected after he got fired. He tells Lois to reduced the food budget but she wonders why he is so considered with what's being eaten all of a sudden. She thus demands an explanation.

Instead of coming clean about getting fired, Peter tells Lois that she is getting really fat. Lois disagrees, telling Peter that he is the one who can't even see his own toes. Fat-shaming? Definitely not a good look.

The Tiananmen Square Incident

Tiananmen Square in Family Guy

In a cutaway gag, Peter is seen holding a Chinese man's hand in Tiananmen Square and pushing it forward so that he can order an approaching tank to stop. Lois criticizes him for not stopping the tank himself.

The real-life Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 were actually tragic and bloody. During the demonstrations, Chinese tanks fired at protestors that were blocking them from advancing to Tiananmen Square. As a result, hundreds of people were killed. The gag can thus be termed as incredibly offensive.

The Soccer Mom

Peter beats a soccer mom

In "Mind Over Murder," Peter drives Chris to one of his soccer games. There, another parent insults Chris and Peter reacts by punching them. He is shocked to realize that the parent is a pregnant woman and not a man. He figures the woman looks kinda masculine hence he had every reason to be violent towards her.

Well, there's the fact that men being violent towards women can never be tolerated. Peter's actions are even worse considering that the woman is pregnant. Joking that a woman looks masculine is neither decent nor responsible.

Lois Criticizes Meg For Wanting To Get Liposuction

Meg and Lois

Meg is keen on looking better. When the family runs out of money to give her so that she can undergo a liposuction procedure, she isn't too happy about it. Lois tells her that she should accept her body as it is because most of the world's problems are the result of people having a poor self-image.

A cutaway gag then shows an overweight Hitler being jealous of a muscular Jewish man at a zoo. Hitler thus decides to persecute Jewish people. Using one of the most tragic occurrences in human history as a punchline isn't funny.

Stewie's Numerous Insults

Chris, Lois and Stewie in Family Guy

In the first season, Stewie is more vulgar and aggressive than he has ever been. He insults Lois a number of times, with his words mostly coming off as shocking rather than hilarious. He jokes about his mother's womb as well as her status as a housewife. He keeps on threatening her too.

A son saying all those kinds of things to a mother doesn't look good. Luckily, the show minimized Stewie's insults towards Lois in future seasons.
