There are hundreds of locations featured in the long-running animated sitcom Family Guy. Only one of those never fails to appear in every single episode and that's the Griffin home. Located in the fictional city of Quahog, the Griffin home is the typical American family residence, with a neat lawn and a path leading to the street.

Plenty of fights have occurred in the home, but happier moments have outnumbered the crazier ones. The Griffins are clearly content with their residence since they have stayed there for so long and have never considered selling. While fans of the show know about most of the events that have happened at the home, a few details are easy to miss.

How The Griffins Got The House

An exterior view of the Griffin house in Family Guy

There is conflicting information in the show about how Peter and Lois became the owners of the house. In Season 2's "Missionary Impossible", it's stated that Peter and Lois bought the house from a settlement they got after suing a condom company. The broken condom had resulted in Lois getting pregnant.

However, in Season 2's "Herpe the Love Sore", it's mentioned that Peter and Lois have been renting the house all along since their income isn't high enough for them to afford to buy it. And in Season 17's  "Throw It Away," it's stated that Carter and Barbara Pewterschmidt pay the house mortgage.

The Phone Number

Lois speaks to Bonnie on the phone

The house's phone number is 555-666-0112. This is revealed on a number of occasions. When Lois goes to a jewelry store and realizes she forgot her purse, she calls the house phone and Meg picks up. On her mobile phone, Lois dials the number above.

Peter also dials the number above after he gets arrested and calls Lois' personal phone, which goes unanswered. Sadly, Chris, who is in the house, is too busy sleeping to hear the phone ringing. There's Bonnie too, who dials the number to speak to Lois

Peter's Preferred Name For Petoria

Peter declares himself the leader of Petoria

Peter once finds out that his house isn't registered in America. He thus invents a fictional nation named Petoria and not only makes it his domicile but also declares himself its president. He initially wanted to name the nation 'Peterland' but the name had already been taken by a bar near the airport.

Petoria covers Pete's house but like great conquerors of the old, he raids Joe Swanson's swimming pool aka Joehio. Pretoria thus becomes complete with the annexation of Joehio. Later, Peter threw a party at Joehio with fellow real-life tyrants. After abusing his power, Peter is forced to surrender Petoria to America.

Size Of The House

Stewie and Brian argue about a debt in Family Guy

The house has a total of 15 rooms. There are four bedrooms, with Peter and Lois sharing the master bedroom. Each of the siblings has their own bedroom.

There are also a couple of special rooms in the house. Stewie has a weapon room, which is something close to Dexter's laboratory. Only a few people are allowed to enter. There is also an attic that has a panic room where the members of the family can hide in case there is a major threat.

The Living Room

In earlier seasons of the series, the floor in the living room was yellow in color. In more recent seasons, it has been consistently green. The circular carpet between the couch and the TV also keeps on changing in color.

Pictures of family members can be seen on the wall too. Behind the couch, two pictures of a mysterious mountain sometimes appear. It's not until Season 18's"Cat Fight" that Stewie reveals that the mountain seen in the picture is Mount Quahog.

House Address

Peter plays with Stewie, Chris and Brian outside the house

After the home finally gets registered in America, its address is stated as 31 Spooner Street in Quahog, Rhode Island. Prior to that, it hadn't appeared in city maps.

There is a DVD commentary for Season 17's "You Can't Handle the Booth!" where Peter states that the real house is actually located in Burbank. He claims that fans of the show keep stealing the mailbox too. It's a great additional piece of information to make it seem like events in the show actually happen in the real world.

Meg's Room

Meg watches movies on her laptop

Trust Peter to be in a dilemma on whether to take Meg to college or use the money to buy beer. He ultimately makes the right decision. When Meg goes to Brown University, Stewie figures the room shouldn't stay idle. He thus converts it to a mega gym with state-of-the-art equipment.

Stewie thus becomes Brian's personal trainer but that doesn't last. Things always go wrong between those two so Brian ends up breaking a limb. Brian thus hires Stewie's nemesis Doug to be his new trainer.

A One-Time Bathroom And Fireplace

A fireplace causes the Griffin house to burn down

There's a downstairs bathroom in Season 3's "Mr. Saturday Knight." This bathroom doesn't appear in any other episode. Ordinarily, all the bathrooms are upstairs.

The fireplace seen in Season 3's "A Very Special Family Guy Freakin' Christmas" also appears only once in the series. In the episode, an ember from the fireplace causes the house to catch fire. The interior is destroyed in the process. Brian also suffers minor burns. It's unclear how the house was repaired.

Details In The Master Bedroom

Lois puts Peter to bed

Keen viewers might notice that the en suite master bathroom keeps changing positions between episodes. For example, in Season 16's "Nanny Goats," it's on the right of the bed while in Season 8's "Spies Reminiscent of Us," it's on the right.

The bedroom was also expanded to make room for Peter's Quonset. This hut appears in some episodes but is absent in others. Peter stays in the hut whenever he needs to be away from everyone else.

The Reason Peter Built Moat

Peter builds a moat after getting excess welfare money

Peter once gets fired from the toy factory after failing to notice faulty toys. This happened because he showed up to work drunk after attending a stag party. Unable to take care of his family, Peter applies for welfare checks but a processing error leads to him being accidentally given $150,000.

Overjoyed, he goes on a reckless spending spree. Most notably, he creates a moat around the house, which he claims is to protect his family from the Black Knight. This made little sense because the knight, who was the lead jouster at Quahog's Ye Olde Renaissance Faire, wasn't a threat to his family. Peter's real reason was clearly to mimic the castles of medieval times.
