On The Family Chantel, fans finally saw the long-ticking bomb between Winter Everett and Chantel Everett explode. At long last, the sisters came to blows in a big, dramatic fight. While the fight was ostensibly over Winter’s long-term boyfriend, Jah, the underlying tension has been brewing for quite some time.

Winter has been featured alongside her sister, Chantel, throughout the 90 Day Fiancé franchise. But she has become an even larger feature on the spinoff, The Family Chantel. Though this close-knit family does have all the appearances of unity and togetherness, there has always been a glimmer of a rift between the sisters. That rift is a little thing called jealousy. Though the show never mentions or addresses Winter’s jealousy of Chantel outright, they did hint at it last season when they aired Winter lamenting that it’s always Chantel in the spotlight. She went on to say she is tired of Chantel being the center of attention and is ready for her turn to shine.

But whether Chantel is to blame for Winter taking a backseat or not, Winter’s feelings of jealousy towards her sister were not helped one bit when Chantel and her mother enlisted a private investigator to dig into Winter’s boyfriend, Jah’s, background. The PI discovered Jah was been keeping a nine-year-old child a secret from Winter. Winter wasn’t exactly thrilled to hear the news. She had been expecting a proposal from Jah, but then the season ended without any resolution to the Jah story. When the family went down to the Dominican Republic to make peace with Pedro’s family, River asked Winter if she dealt with the Jah situation and “finally” broke up with him. Winter simply sighed and said she was more interested in going out and enjoying the sunny day than she was in talking about all that drama.

Later, however, Chantel told Winter that Jah “treated [her] like a doormat.” But Winter wasn’t hearing it. She fired back that it wasn’t Jah who treated her like a doormat, but Chantel herself. Winter called her sister a “b*tch” and stormed off, leaving years of pent-up animosity in her wake. The family was devastated by the fight. Karen said in a confessional that it is “very stressful for [her] to see her kids fight like this.” Even though Pedro’s sister once called Chantel "a f*cking b*tch" to her face in front of his mother, Pedro says he is shocked Winter would call Chantel that word in front of their mother and father.

Hypocrisy aside, The Family Chantel is going through some growing pains. As for what the future holds, we’ll have to wait and see. But if the past is any indication, they’re bound to find their way through this tiff, because at the end of the day, they’re family and they love each other.
