The Redditor theorized that Pedro's, "definition of alpha male comes from women with terrible internalized misogyny." The user explained that having so many negative male role models and cheaters in a family, and then being raised by a bitter and angry woman, likely contributed to Pedro's mindset.
"Yep, Lidia is a loser a** pimp who doesn't value human life it seems. Only an evil person would be a pimp," u/youliveintheswamp wrote in the same thread, about Pedro's mother, Lidia Morel. There were rumors that she was desperate for Pedro to couple up with an American woman, so she could benefit financially.
Did Lidia Morel Raise Pedro Jimeno To Misbehave?
Multiple commenters agreed that Pedro's attitude towards Chantel likely came from Lidia, who notoriously couldn't stand her daughter-in-law, and had a lot of anger towards Pedro's father. "Lidia was the macho man that raised him. She taught him how to treat a woman. His behavior was excused by Lidia over and over again," u/ccmanigo wrote at the same thread. "Pedro didn’t just absorb the bad lessons of mistreatment on females that is inherent in machismo. Pedro also grew up in a very toxic family," u/Life_Commission3765 observed. The Family Chantel fans previously learned just how corrupt and uncaring Pedro's family can be, as both his mother and sister had affairs with married men, and mocked Pedro's desire to know his father.
Although Pedro should still be held accountable for his own decisions, there is evidence that Lidia is the real villain of The Family Chantel. Pedro and Chantel's marriage was initially presented as a happy union between the couple. In order to be together, they fought through a lot of family discrimination on both sides. It was sad and disappointing to see how Pedro treated Chantel during season 4. However, Lidia and Nicole have long since been regarded as villains on The Family Chantel, due to their consistently cold and cruel behavior, which might have impacted Pedro more than viewers realize.
