A sizable new mod for decade-old classic RPG Fallout: New Vegas promises to add drivable vehicles and over 150 new weapons to the wasteland. Developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Bethesda, Fallout New Vegas was the one time in modern franchise history where series veterans and newer players came to the same critical consensus. Created by the same people that created the franchise in the first place, New Vegas brought complicated faction politics, weapon modding, and branching dialogue trees to the first-person formula established in Fallout 3. Many of those features would carry forward into Bethesda's own Fallout 4, but there's still a faction of fans that prefer Obsidian's take on the material.

Of course, those fans were more than satisfied with The Outer Worlds, a space-faring Fallout-like created by the team and published by Private Division. While it's shorter than the typical entry in the Fallout series, The Outer Worlds achieved a lot of the things that Fallout 4 and Fallout 76 shied away from in a smaller package. Since that game's release, both Obsidian and Bethesda have been purchased by Microsoft, making for a possible future where The Outer Worlds and Fallout share a lot of the same DNA, structure, and creators.

For some people, current games lack the creative spark that older releases indulged in, which is why some games are constantly updated with new mods. In the case of Fallout: New Vegas, a worldwide team of modders are preparing to release a total conversion for the game that takes players to the wilds of Portland, Oregan. The Frontier promises a new open-world the size of the Capital Wasteland from Fallout 3, over 150 new weapons, drivable vehicles, and over 24,000 lines of voiced dialogue. Players just need the original New Vegas and the game's four DLCs in order to install the mod and start playing.

The real star of the show as far as new content in New Vegas is a fleet of drivable vehicles. Outside of the tank-like power armor in Fallout 4, this will be the first time that vehicles are drivable in any Fallout release, and the trailer shows the player plowing through mutants and wasteland creatures alike. The mod's creators also promise new locations from an NCR base of operations to a former sports stadium, and there are three major questlines to follow across the new world. Players can also expect a number of Vaults to explore with their own side stories.

The first signs of Fallout: New Vegas's latest mod hit the Internet back in 2015, meaning that the team behind The Frontier has been working on the self-described "super-DLC" for the past five years. The fact that this kind of effort is going to be put out on the Internet for free is staggering, especially for fans who are still disappointed in the new direction for the series that Fallout 76 ushered in. It will likely be a few years before a proper Fallout sequel hits the shelves, so this seems like a great way for fans to spend the time in the meanwhile.
