Bethesda has shared official details regarding the upcoming Fallout 76 Steel Dawn update that will introduce new types of vaults for players to build. Now is the perfect time to shed light on planned features as last week, the game was treated to a free-to-play weekend.

Fallout 76 went free-to-play for a few days to celebrate the World’s End, which - according to the Fallout universe’s timeline - happened on October 23, 2077. During the limited-time promotion, players were able to explore all of the game’s content including the significant Wastelanders expansion and local battle royale mode. Now, developers are preparing for the approaching arrival of the Brotherhood of Steel, and some of the upcoming features have just been treated to an in-depth look.

In a new Developer Gameplay video, Bethesda has offered a detailed look at the upcoming C.A.M.P. Shelters mechanics, which will focus on building proper underground vaults in player camps that will be separate from the rest of the main base. According to the development team, C.A.M.P. Shelters are basically new instanced locations that can be decorated according to players’ preferences in interior design, allowing them to express their creativity. The new system favors those who want more from the building mechanics of Fallout 76 as it essentially releases the majority of restrictions that the community has been used to for quite a while. Players will be able to build spaceships, Wild West saloons, and even pirate vessels within their vaults. Owners of Fallout 76 on PC via Bethesda.net launcher can already join the public test environment to get the first taste of a new feature. The rest of the community will get access to C.A.M.P. Shelters once the Steel Dawn update releases this December.

Fallout 76 is slowly but steadily turning into a much more comfortable and welcoming experience for players compared to its initial turbulent launch, which was hindered by a number of issues. The game released in a buggy, content-starved state, which was followed by accompanying controversies of the promotional campaign. The notorious story regarding canvas bags included in the Collector’s edition might serve as a brilliant example of broken hopes and fraudulent marketing. But despite all the odds, Fallout 76 is being constantly supported by Bethesda, which deserves at least some recognition.

Judging by the amount of freedom in building and decorating new C.A.M.P. Shelters in Fallout 76, the feature is likely to be abused by some players to create some disturbing and unsettling designs, but those won’t probably last for long, as Bethesda has handed out bans to players for offensive behavior before. On a more positive note, underground vaults are definitely going to attract creative survivors, allowing them to express their inner geniuses with the feature’s elaborate functionality.
