A new Fallout 76 update has Wastelanders preparing for the Brotherhood of Steel's arrival in West Virginia. Debuting in the original Fallout game back in 1997, the Brotherhood of Steel is a techno-religious military order that originates from the remnants of California. Made up of the remnants of the U.S. Military from before the Great War in Fallout canon, the Brotherhood has appeared in one way or another in every Fallout game so far.

Players may recognize the Brotherhood of Steel from their signature power armor suits, which often adorn the box art for Fallout games. The armor is also considered a vital upgrade in each game, including Fallout 76, where the faction doesn't show up until late in the story. In the free Legendary Run update for Fallout 76, which debuted in June, Russell Dorsey arrived in Appalachia. Russel was interested in the remnants of the chapter of the Brotherhood of Steel, and he alerted the player that reinforcements from the group were on their way from the Lost Hills.

According to Bethesda's August 4th patch notes for Fallout 76, players will take the next steps toward inviting the Brotherhood to their own slice of West Virginia. The Fortifying ATLAS community quest will have the entire Fallout 76 player base building out the ATLAS observatory in anticipation of the Brotherhood's arrival. This will take place in two halves, including Project Alpha on August 4th and Project Bravo on August 27th. Players can help by donating scrap to Russell Dorsey in exchange for ATLAS Donor's Provisions drops, which may contain rare plans and definitely has other goodies inside.

Other updates in the most recent patch include a new instanced multiplayer event called "A Colossal Problem." This will have players dropping a nuke on a closed-off mine to get inside and come face to face with a Wendigo Colossus. This challenging boss is geared towards level 50 and higher players, so any challengers best come prepared. The patch also signals the return of Meat Week, an event where players help Grahm the super mutant throw a celebratory barbecue. This year's festivities include a few new rewards, including the chance to gain plans for a brand new Tenderizer.

After a rough launch that seemed cursed at times, the introduction of NPCs and more traditional quests has turned Fallout 76 into a game many fans of the franchise have come to enjoy. As work continues on a new adventure in the stars at Bethesda, Fallout 76 and The Elder Scrolls: Online are keeping the publisher's most famous legacy properties alive with new content and yearlong updates. It's not quite the full-fledged sequels that some demand, but it is a preview of what might be to come. With more and more games going the platform route as the years roll on, players just might come to see Fallout 76 as ahead of its time.
