Despite not gaining the critical acclaim that was given to previous installments in the franchise, Fallout 76 has slowly gained a loyal following of gamers looking for any chance to explore the post-apocalyptic wastelands of Fallout. Diverting away from previous games in the series, Fallout 76 is an entirely multiplayer experience with more in common with games like World of Warcraft rather than traditional single-player RPGs like Skyrim.

With the largest playable area in the franchise's history and an insane amount of customization to match, the game can be overwhelming to newer players. As more content is added to the ever-changing game, there has been a fair share of fantastic-looking cosmetic items as well as plenty that most players are going to steer clear of.

Halloween Costume Skeleton (Pretty Cool)

Character wearing a skeleton costume in Fallout 76

Although it may feel impractical to wear a Halloween costume while wandering around a wasteland that seems to have death waiting for the player at every possible turn, it's so cool looking that it is easy to forget how silly it actually is. Of course, the Skeleton Mask alone can make for some seriously cool outfits when combined with something that is a little bit more practical below the neck, either way, the Skeleton Costume is a must for any player looking to expand their wardrobe.

Civil War Dress (Worst)

Female character wearing a civil war dress in Fallout 76

In a game full of goofy outfits, the Civil War Era Dress just might take the top prize. Aside from the fact that there is no possible situation that a player would find themselves in that would cause them to say "I wish I'd kept that dress," the dress itself is an eye-sore. With lots of frills and a downright abysmal plaid pattern the dress just simply doesn't belong in any players inventory, unless of course that they are doing a fashion show with the other wanderers.

Space Suit (Pretty Cool)

The Fallout series has made several references to science fiction and outer space over the years, such as aliens and UFOs appearing in both Fallout 3 and Fallout 4. Fallout 76 is no different as players can stumble upon a crashed space station and find both the suit and the matching helmet after a brief and fairly simple treasure hunt.

Players will be rewarded with an outfit that feels strangely at home in the desolate wasteland and makes slightly more cosmetic sense than wearing a dress. Who doesn't want to be an astronaut?

Manta Man Costume (Worst)

Want to look like you got lost on your way to comic con and stumbled into a post-apocalyptic hellscape? The Manta Man costume is both obnoxious and foolish-looking against the grey and brown backdrop of a post-nuclear war West Virginia. With brightly colored tights and a cape that's so short it looks more like a baby bib on backward, this outfit is surely not worth the real money it would cost from the Atomic Store.

Greaser Jacket and Jeans (Pretty Cool)

Male character wearing a greaser jacket and jeans in Fallout 76

A Fallout classic that goes all the way back to Fallout 3, the greaser jacket and jeans is one of the coolest ways to roam the wasteland. With both a clean and a dirty variant of the outfits, players can choose if they want to go with the classic Mad Max look, or something that better resembles John Travolta and company in Grease. Either way, the outfit is sleek, and actually makes sense to roam the wasteland in, so long as it doesn't rain.

Garb of Mysteries (Worst)

Female character wearing the garb of mysteries in Fallout 76

Although it may be more important to be menacing rather than to just look menacing in the wasteland, looking like a complete fool is going to get you the wrong kind of attention. The Garb of  Mysteries does exactly that, as the outfit looks like something a Dr. Strange type character might wear in a comic book from the 1960s.

Complete with elbow-length black gloves and a very unique-looking collar, this outfit is more likely to make your enemies point and laugh rather than to fear those clad in the green and black outfit.

Ritual Mask (Pretty Cool)

Character wearing the ritual mask in Fallout 76

For players looking to intimidate, look no further than the ritual mask. Found at either Lucky Hole Mine or in the Mothman Museum the Ritual Mask might just be the single coolest cosmetic item ever seen in the Fallout franchise. Complete with a grinning skull and deer antlers strapped onto the outside the mask looks like something one would expect from a Purge movie or some kind of post-apocalyptic slasher film.

Golf Outfit (Worst)

Male character in a golf course wearing the golf outfit in Fallout 76

Yet another outfit that will likely have opponents laughing rather than thinking twice about engaging you, the Golf Outfit is a sight to behold and not in a good way. Not the sleek Tiger Woods-esque outfit that one might hope for, the Golf Outfit can be found at a few locations around the wasteland, should you be unlucky enough to stumble upon this green and beige, diamond-patterned atrocity. Although it would admittedly go well with the aforementioned Civil War-era dress should players find themselves in a contest for the ugliest outfit.

Sack Hood With Straps (Pretty Cool)

Character wearing the sack hood with straps in Fallout 76

Similar to the Ritual Mask, the Sack Hood With Straps look like it would be more at home on the head of the antagonist in a horror movie, opposed to laying on the ground in the Crater War Room. With a worn and dirty look to it as well as a single eye-opening,  the Sack Hood will have players looking like one of the scariest looking creatures in the wasteland. Aside from the brilliant visuals of the item, it also prevents damage and disease from airborne hazards, making it effective in more ways than one.

Tattered Mole Hat (Worst)

Character wearing the tattered mole head in Fallout 76

One of the many cosmetic items that seem to be intended for players keen on collecting the most random and strange items in the game, the Tattered Mole Hat seems to be right at home with players that simply want to confuse their enemies. The mascot head is quite creepy in its own right but more the kind of creepy that invites trouble as opposed to scaring it away. The mascot head also seems to make a giant target for enemies, so be sure to watch out for snipers if you decide to give it a try.
