Bethesda appears to be supporting mods more than ever for Fallout 4, promising official support on Windows platforms within the month and promising fans that information will be coming soon about implementing mod support on both Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game.
We've already seen a number of mods appear for the open world action RPG on PC. Some may look to break the boundaries of the original game, and some may even go beyond the realms of sanity - such as the mod that pitted an army of 100 Brotherhood of Steel against 10,000 Deathclaws. There were also some even scarier ones, involving Thomas the Tank Engine and Macho Man. Naturally, one of the first mods that fans were developing was to have a lightsaber as a weapon. Taking the mod one step further, one YouTuber has used them to create his own Star Wars battle video in the game, including a showdown between father and son.
Cosmic Contrarian is the brains behind the latest Star Wars mod project. They have already created 17 previous Fallout 4 battle videos, including ones based on The Terminator and The Lord of the Rings. The latest re-imagines a clash between the Rebel Alliance and Empire forces before Luke Skywalker faces off against Darth Vader, much in the style of Empire Strikes Back. In the video, the Brotherhood of Steel act as the Empire. Power Armors are set to all white, turning them into Stormtroopers, and it seems that Liberty Prime (the robot you re-activate as part of the Brotherhood faction quest line) unleashes destruction on rebel troops more than the AT-ATs did on Hoth.
It is a lengthy video, clocking at over 20 minutes, and it is at least six minutes before Darth Vader eventually shows up, arriving on his personal Vertibird and showing no mercy to anyone who stands in his way. Not only does Darth have his trusty lightsaber, Cosmic Contrarian has also managed to enable force powers. At least one of his powers seems to be created by adapting a thrown weapon to have the desired effect, and as a result Vader is seen taking out many of his opponents with a shock-wave of electricity. After Darth Vader has finished cutting down the rebel scum, he returns to the helicarrier, only to then be confronted by Luke Skywalker himself. Fallout 4’s melee combat system may restrict the amount of fancy moves the characters can pull off but it is epic in its own way, particularly one shot when the fight has moved to the ship’s roof and the Death Star can be seen in the sky.
The first Fallout 4 DLC that is part of the season pass is due to be released this week. Called Automatron, it will send the player on a quest to track down and take out an evil ‘Mechanist’ who is the leader of an army of killer robots. It will also introduce a new set of customizations, allowing players to construct their own robotic companion. No doubt it won’t be long before even more Star Wars mods are created for the DLC. Who doesn’t want R2-D2, BB-8 or (to a lesser extent) C-3PO as their wasteland companion?
Fallout 4 is available now on PC, Xbox One and PS4.
