A modder has created a new fix for Fallout 3's latest patch on Steam, saving the modding communities numerous creations and allowing players to once again enjoy the Post-apocalyptic RPG with modifications. Last week, Bethesda officially updated Fallout 3 on Steam after almost 12 years, removing the requirement for the title's outdated Gaming For Windows Live service and making the game easily accessible without requiring tedious workarounds. However, this patch disabled mods, as Fallout 3's tool to expand modding capabilities broke, concerning many as it hasn't been updated in almost a decade.

Bethesda has had many successful games over the years, but by far its largest franchises are Fallout and The Elder Scrolls. Both open-world action-RPG series have strong modding communities that have added longevity to Bethesda's titles, as well as even increase sales significantly. Thousands of mods for each title can be found online and range from fixing various issues or adding new features to bringing limitless new adventures for players to experience. While most can be found on sites like Nexus Mods, Bethesda has also introduced official mod support with the Creation Club. This allows players to purchase well-made mods licensed by Bethesda and experienced modders are given the opportunity to become official Creators for the company.

As seen on Nexus Mods, (via NME) modder lStewieAl has released a new patch that re-enables mods for Fallout 3 on Steam, after Bethesda's latest "fix" completely disabled them. The Fallout Anniversary Patcher downgrades the game from 1.7.0.4 to 1.7.0.3 and allows the Fallout Script Extender to be once again compatible with the title so players can install mods freely. Additionally, it also completely removes Gaming For Windows Live which plagued the Steam version of the post-apocalyptic RPG for more than a decade. The patch is available now and is compatible with both the standard and GOTY editions of Fallout 3 on Steam and GOG.

Fallout

While Fallout 3's modding situation has been resolved, Skyrim is set to receive a similar update that will break and disrupt thousands of mods. Bethesda is celebrating Skyrim’s 10th anniversary by releasing The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition, an updated version of the Special Edition that will introduce many new additional features and graphical updates. This will however disable the Skyrim Script Extender, making mods unusable and forcing modders to recreate mods exclusively for the Anniversary Edition.

Modding capabilities have officially returned to Fallout 3 and players can enjoy the classic post-apocalyptic RPG with modifications at their own leisure. While it is unknown if Bethesda will ever release an official patch for its titles to address the issue, players can look to its thriving modding community for all upcoming fixes.
