The new line-up of X-Men books have all been designed to cover different aspects of the new mutant reality in Marvel's Universe. But each one of them has been pitched around the notion that things are finally looking up for mutantkind. Which makes it the perfect time for Fallen Angels #1 to remind readers that for some mutants, the scars oft he past don't fade so easily.
Mutants around the world are flocking to the island-nation of Krakoa for safety, security and to be part of the first mutant society. New bonds are forged among mutantkind as old wounds heal, but the drums of war still beat for some. Warriors like Psylocke -- the actual physical body of Psylocke, formerly known as Kwannon before the body-merging with Betsy Braddock, the new Captain Britain (honestly, it's better to just not ask). But if the future seemed uncertain for Psylocke and the other 'fallen angels' for whom the book is named, the first official preview from Marvel jumps into a new mission almost immediately. A new mission... and a deadly new threat.
Obviously the specifics are intentionally vague for now, showing only that a voice enters Psylocke's mind during meditation. Describing itself as "Apoth," it becomes clear this strange being considers itself a god. The images that follow are distressing, to say the least. But the conclusion can be gleaned once emotion is removed: Psylocke is likely witnessing the emergence of the next stage of human evolution, beginning the march towards Homo novissima. The evolved form of humanity that will one day destroy them both. That means it's time for Psylocke to go into action and track down these first post-human beings.
But to do that, she's going to need some help from mutants similarly unable to accept a happy ending: X-23 and the young Cable. Let the mission begin, Fallen Angels readers, and check out the full preview for Fallen Angels #1 embedded below:
