Yesterday’s Fall Guys teaser video was unmistakably a nod to the 2D puzzle platformer, Shovel Knight. Still, fans went off speculating what Fall Guys crossover skin was inbound, and some had wild theories like Steve from Minecraft. Only a day after Fall Guys teased the Shovel Knight crossover, the devs revealed, once and for all, the incoming costume to the battle royale game. Fall Guys is known for its long list of unique skins, incorporating pop culture and video game icons into the game. Previously, Fall Guys received Among Us and Sonic the Hedgehog-inspired costumes, as well as Mr. Beast and Ninja outfits as well.
It’s no surprise that Shovel Knight is the next Fall Guys crossover since the famous blue armor and oversized shovel have been seen in many games in previous years. Shovel Knight devs, Yacht Club Games, decided to bring the character to the mainstream, attempting to make it the next big 2D platformer since Super Mario Bros. Shovel Knight has appeared in many games, like Ubisoft’s For Honor. The strategy has worked to garner nearly universal recognition of the knight in blue, and the Shovel Knight’s next endeavor puts it on the world stage.
In a tweet by Fall Guys, the game’s next crossover was confirmed to be Shovel Knight. The tweet is a picture of a Fall Guy bean dressed in the thick blue armor of the Shovel Knight and triumphantly holding up the unforgettable shovel. The tweet also confirms the skin will hit the Fall Guys store on Saturday, but as of now, there is no confirmation for whether there will be multiple costumes from the Shovel Knight universe.
The character from Shovel Knight has shown up in many games, specifically appearing in indie games like Road Redemption, Runbow, and Rivals of Aether. The previous locales Shovel Knight has explored are relatively small. Recently, though, the Shovel Knight has dug his way into AAA games, too, like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and For Honor. Now, the character’s crossover into the Fall Guys world brings it to one of the biggest stages in the gaming industry.
As for Fall Guys, the game is known for providing creative skins as incentives to win matches and crowns. Decking out Fall Guys’ beans is a fan-favorite feature of the game. Adding Shovel Knight will definitely bring new players to the game, who will be vying for the blue armor, especially with new mini-games having just been added. The Shovel Knight adds an intimidating skin to the game, and perhaps more skins from Shovel Knight, like the enchantress will appear in the Fall Guys store.
