Mediatonic's battle royale platformer game Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout will soon receive cross-platform play for PlayStation 4 and PC. The game has players compete to conquer various mini-games, with successful players moving on to the next round. The popular indie title launched back in August 2020 and has continued to receive support from Mediatonic in the form of updates and seasonal events.

Fall Guys recently entered its fourth season, which injects a neon sci-fi aesthetic into the cartoonish title. Season 4 has added a host of new mini-games to the unique indie platformer, keeping players on their toes as they adjust to brand-new objectives. A total of seven new events have been added, including a game of anti-gravity basketball and a race involving speedy hoverboards. The new season also signals the addition of new skins to the game, which will be released throughout the season's run. A notable cosmetic skin recently added to the game functions as a crossover with another popular indie platformerShovel Knight. This shiny blue skin allows players to dress up as the titular hero as they compete with other Fall Guys players for supremacy.

A recent post from the official Fall Guys Twitter account outlines a number of additions coming in the game's next big update. The update, referred to as Season 4.5, will add two new rounds and 55 additional variations. However, perhaps the most exciting announcement is the addition of cross-platform matchmaking, which will allow PlayStation 4 and PC gamers to play online together. Custom lobbies will allow both PS4 and PC players, and these fans will now be able to matchmake together in all game modes. However, players with different systems will not yet be able to form parties together. The Season 4.5 update will launch on May 13.

Cross-platform play between PlayStation 4 and PC players will help to unite the Fall Guys player base, and this push for crossplay doesn't end there. Versions of the game for Xbox and Nintendo Switch were expected to release in summer 2021, but these versions were recently delayed until an unspecified future date. However, it is expected that the Xbox and Nintendo Switch versions of Fall Guys will come complete with cross-platform play, allowing the game's entire player base to compete regardless of which system they own.

For online multiplayer games such as Fall Guys, cross-platform play is an invaluable way to unite and maintain a single devoted player base. Separating online play between systems risks alienating part of a community and increasing the time it takes to find a match. PlayStation 4 and PC players will soon be able to play the game together, eliminating any division between fans.
