Today, developer Mediatonic announced that Fall Guys will soon go free-to-play; plus, the wait for the Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and Epic Games Store versions is nearly at an end. Fall Guys hit the ground running in the summer of 2020 on Steam and PlayStation 4, managing to take the world by storm courtesy of its obstacle course-centric multiplayer gameplay and adorable characters. Though Mediatonic planned on porting Fall Guys to Switch and Xbox approximately one year ago, such releases were delayed to allow developers to focus on the creation of new features.

The charm of Fall Guys predominantly rests in its little bean characters, who waddle around obstacle courses as players work towards taking the top spot at the end of each round. It didn't take long for a wide variety of brands to latch on to Fall Guys' early success. Everyone from Godzilla and Ratchet and Clank to Cuphead's Mughead and Colonel Sanders of KFC fame has featured in the online title at one point or another. But Fall Guys' most exciting crossovers yet - with Nintendo and Xbox - will manifest sometime in the near future.

During a "Free for All" announcement broadcast on YouTube, developer Mediatonic confirmed that Fall Guys Season 1 will become free-to-play this summer on June 21. Epic Games Store, Nintendo, Xbox players will also want to mark the June date on their calendars, given that Fall Guys finally hits EGS, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series platforms that very same day. The PlayStation 5 version of Mediatonic's hit multiplayer experience should go live on June 21, as well. And, yes, cross-platform play will apply to every iteration of the game.

During the stream, Mediatonic developers confirmed the Nintendo Switch version will be playable in handheld and docked modes. Fall Guys should run in 720p at 30fps in handheld mode; meanwhile, players can expect the docked performance to achieve 1080p at 30fps. On the Xbox Series S, Fall Guys will target 60fps at 1440p, with the Series X console aiming for a performance of 60fps at 2160p.

This year has already proven a big one for the popular multiplayer title. A few months ago, for instance, Fall Guys received the Monopoly treatment, thanks to an ingenious Hasbro partnership. And Mediatonic's plans for the future extend beyond cross-platform play and new console versions. The above stream also saw the production team tease that an obstacle course customization mode is in the works, though it currently resides in the nascent stages of development.
