Fall Guys is set to make hacking much harder, with Mediatonic announcing that it's introducing a series of new measures that include using Fortnite's anti-cheat system. Cheating has always been an issue in gaming, but online multiplayer has allowed hackers to spoil the fun of far more players than was previously possible. Developers have taken a wide array of steps to prevent cheating, including rewarding those who find exploits with large cash sums.

While all games suffer from cheaters to some extent, Fall Guys has been particularly popular with hackers who use a range of exploits. These include increasing the running speed of the character so that they are far faster than everyone else and adding flying to bypass obstacles in the game's courses. Mediatonic has not been as successful at combating cheaters as many equally popular games yet, largely because of the small size of the studio, but the developer has promised to do what it can to fix the issue as quickly as possible. According to the company, this will involve identifying hackers quickly and removing them mid-game rather than at the end of a round.

Mediatonic has revealed that it's putting in place a series of new measures to help stop cheaters in Fall Guys. Speaking on the company's official Twitter, a spokesperson apologized for the situation, saying the studio is "really sorry about the cheating problem," and also confirmed that a series of updates starting next week will expand the current detection system so that hackers are discovered more quickly. The game will also implement the same anti-cheat software used in popular games such as Fortnite, which should ensure that far fewer hackers are able to use exploits within Fall Guys.

Fall Guys has proven to be one of the biggest hits of 2020 and took the gaming world by storm. The surprise hit is a unique take on the battle royale genre that pits 60 players against each other in a series of game show-inspired challenges. Currently available on PC and PlayStation 4, Mediatonic has revealed that it will consider ports to other platforms in the future and that it is working on crossplay functionality.

Fall Guys is undoubtedly a fun game, though the experience has been somewhat ruined by cheating. The problem is particularly bad on PC, where hackers are regular occurrences in a significant proportion of matches. Of course, it is difficult for an indie developer like Mediatonic to quickly solve these issues, so using already available software is a good way to help alleviate the problem until the studio can implement more precise anti-cheat systems in the future.
