Wyatt Russell may have hinted at a surprise Chris Evans cameo on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. With only two episodes left, the Marvel Studios series is starting to tackle its core story, which is the legacy of the Captain America mantle. From the discovery of Isaiah Bradley's secret existence to John Walker's public meltdown that left a Flag-Smashers member dead in Latvia, the show is challenging everything that's known about the superhero persona thus far.

After the defeat of Thanos in Avengers: Endgame, Steve Rogers decided that it's best to retire from service and live the life he always wanted with Peggy Carter. But before he fully disappeared, he passed on the shield and effectively the Captain America mantle to Sam Wilson who was supposed to be his successor. Unfortunately, due to internal and external factors, Falcon passed on the opportunity. With that, the government decided to launch their pick as the new Star-Spangled Avenger in Walker who debuted at the end of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier premiere. Unlike Sam, however, he doesn't have any personal connections to Steve, and when Wyatt was recently asked if he has met Evans, the actor's answer wasn't as straightforward as the question.

During a new interview with BBC Radio 1, the actor was posed with this query but according to him, they were never really introduced to each other. Instead, they may have just found themselves in the same place where they made eye contact. Then, his answer turned more interesting when he segued to hyping up The Falcon and the Winter Soldier where he teased that at the end of the show, people will be very surprised. Russell said:

Have I ever met Chris Evans? I think I have. I don't think I've 'shook his hand' met him, but I think I've walked by him somewhere and made eye contact. That counts as being a stalker, that doesn't count as meeting anybody. But, I guess it would. You just gotta wait until the end of the series and then everybody will be like, 'Oh, wow.'

Old Steve Rogers looking up in Avengers Endgame

Considering the original question, it's safe to assume that the last part of Russell's answer still had something to do with his connections to Evans. But since he brought up The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, it sounded like it's a tease for a potential appearance from the former MCU actor in the show. Perhaps, his first answer may have something to do with Walker's link to Steve. As the new Captain America, he was vocal about looking up to his predecessor. He's continued to be pressured to live up to the high bar that the original Star-Spangled Avenger set. Given this, it won't be outside the realm of possibility that Walker has encountered Steve in a public setting before, although they didn't technically meet just like what Russell said about Evans.

There were rumors that Evans was in discussions to return to the MCU, but shortly after, the actor himself denied the rumors. Eventually, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige shot down speculations before people got invested in it. Given this, it's safe to say that there won't be any new scenes that Evans filmed for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier in the event that Russell's tease amounts to something. Aside from this possible cameo, there's also another big surprise character set to appear in episode 5.
