Don Cheadle confirms War Machine will appear in Marvel Studios' upcoming Disney+ series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. The Marvel Cinematic Universe officially moved to the small screen recently with the debut of WandaVision. While most viewers are enjoying the weekly mystery of the first MCU Disney+ show, the original plan was for The Falcon and The Winter Soldier to be the beginning. The series, starring Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan as Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes, is now slated to debut in March.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier will be the first time Sam and Bucky lead an MCU project, and while they are the focus of the show, there are several other familiar characters who will appear. Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp) and Baron Zemo (Daniel Bruhl) are returning for the series, marking their first appearances since Captain America: Civil War. The show will also introduce some new characters from Marvel's comic history, such as the new Captain America John Walker (Wyatt Russell). In addition to smaller characters like Batroc the Leaper (Georges St-Pierre) returning too, another Avenger is now confirmed.

War Machine's return in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is an exciting development for the series that also makes a lot of sense. The MCU developed a bit of a friendship between Rhodey and Sam in Avengers: Infinity War, as the two ariel Avengers worked well together. They both were part of the New Avengers lineup at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron, but whatever friendship they might have hasn't been fully explored. Now that Sam is without Captain America and Rhodey is without Iron Man, their shared loss of their best friends is something The Falcon and The Winter Soldier could explore.

Now that The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is confirmed to feature War Machine, it also means the show could set up Rhodey's upcoming solo adventure. Marvel Studios is developing an Armor Wars series for Disney+ that will star War Machine. There hasn't been any direct setup for the show so far, but The Falcon and The Winter Soldier could change that potentially. If Sam and Bucky discover that someone is using Stark technology or that it is floating around on the black market, they could alert War Machine ahead of Armor Wars. In any case, War Machine's involvement in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier gives the show another opportunity to build off the MCU's past and shape its future.
