After the release of Avengers: Endgame ended the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s previous running storyline, Phase Four will be bringing forward new arcs for the characters. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is set to place two of Captain America’s close associates in leading roles, although the Disney+ series needs to address past events.

These have become questions that fans have been hoping to see answered in the TV series. While there are some that pertain to the titular characters, a significant amount have to do with the MCU as a whole, with certain links to The Falcon and the Winter Soldier that should allow the series to address these points.

Are There Safeguards Against Alien Threats Now?

A Chitauri soldier screams in The Avengers

It was Tony Stark’s mission to make a “suit of armor around the world” to prevent threats like the one Thanos posed. Since he turned out to be right and Earth had a cataclysmic event, there’s a chance that Tony’s intentions were heeded.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier needs to confirm if this is the case or not since it’s a show that will delve into the government side of things. The characters are closely associated with bodies like the World Security Council, S.H.I.E.L.D., and the UN, so there’s no reason why this clarification shouldn’t be provided.

Why Has Sharon Carter Been On The Run?

Sharon Carter

For the most part, Sharon Carter is remembered for dividing the fanbase due to her romance with Steve Rogers, who ultimately went back in time to marry her great aunt Peggy. Many are still aware, though, that Sharon has been on the run from the government for aiding Steve during Captain America: Civil War.

However, it’s a mystery why she’s still escaping the government since every other character who was involved in the Sokovia Accords situation has come out in the open without any problems. To this end, it’s worth knowing just what Sharon has involved herself in and how it ties to the story.

Is HYDRA Still Active In Some Way?

For a time, the MCU was dominated by HYDRA, which took on the role of the main antagonist of Phase Two. Later, HYDRA pretty much vanished since integral members were killed off. This seems too easy considering how deep the faction had run and how long it had been active.

With Avengers: Endgame showing another side of HYDRA during the Time Heist, it opened up queries from fans if HYDRA might still be active on a smaller scale. Seeing as the Winter Soldier was brainwashed by the faction, it would make sense to dive further into this subject and quell the fans’ curiosity.

What Is The Mental State Of The Winter Soldier?

Falcon and Winter Soldier

Almost a decade later, most agree that Captain America: The Winter Soldier was the best in its trilogy. The main hook here was how Bucky Barnes mind controlled to become an assassin by HYDRA, an issue that plagued him all the way until Black Panther.

Since Avengers: Infinity War had too much going on, it’s not clear if the Winter Soldier has even been cleared of his mental issues. The Disney+ series has to showcase how he’s holding up since Captain America isn’t around anymore and the Winter Soldier isn’t in Wakanda either for Shuri to help his well being.

Did Wakanda Opening Up To The World Make A Difference?

The Wakandan capital in Black Panther

The ending of Black Panther showed T’Challa ready to open up Wakanda’s technology for other nations. While the film did change the MCU's style, it’s not clear if T’Challa’s decision made a difference in-universe, since Avengers: Infinity War didn’t elaborate on this.

With The Falcon and the Winter Soldier looking into political issues, there has to be some interaction with Wakanda as well. This is the best chance to portray the difference the new Wakandan technology made, or to at least make clear if there was ever any impact of Wakanda’s decision to share their knowledge with the world.

How Much Power Does S.H.I.E.L.D. Have Now?

Nick Fury - featured image

Even the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series had characters who deserved more screen time, with S.H.I.E.L.D. itself largely looming in the background but being unclear in status within MCU films. Characters like Nick Fury have popped up but it’s not shown what S.H.I.E.L.D.’s role is.

It’s hard to believe that the Disney+ series won’t have elements of S.H.I.E.L.D. in it considering how important the faction’s role was in world events. The series should showcase just who is controlling the major decisions for Earth’s safety and the extent to which S.H.I.E.L.D. is involved.

What Is The Status Of The Sokovia Accords?

The Sokovia Accords in Captain America Civil War

After causing the Avengers to be fractured in Captain America: Civil War, the Sokovia Accords angle was pretty much abandoned in later film entries. That doesn’t mean fans haven’t wondered what became of this agreement, with many arguing that the Sokovia Accords are still active.

Not only does this story need to return, but it also has to answer how the Accords worked during the five-year gap where half of the world’s population had vanished. Along with that, the series should present the current status of the Accords after everyone returned.

What Has The Governmental Impact Of The Snap Been Like?

William Hurt as Thunderbolt Ross

Everyone noticed how Thunderbolt Ross was standing ominously during Tony Stark’s funeral at the end of Avengers: Endgame. He had previously been a thorn in the side of the heroes in Avengers: Infinity War but had been sidelined because Thanos was a bigger threat.

Now that the dust has settled, fans have to know who the higher-ups in the government are. It sounds like a stretch that the same people that had been responsible in Captain America: Civil War are still there, but that can only be answered if The Falcon and the Winter Soldier shows what the governmental structure is after the Snap.

Is Falcon The Leader Of The Avengers?

Falcon and the Winter Soldier Captain America shield featured

Captain America was the original leader of the Avengers before it was divided into two. By the end of Avengers: Endgame, there was no clear leader since both Iron Man and Captain America were out of the picture. With Captain America passing the shield to Falcon, it seemed as if the latter was now in charge.

That’s all still speculation, which The Falcon and the Winter Soldier needs to address since possessing the shield is supposed to have some sort of impact. The Avengers’ status has been up in the air for a while, and it’s high time its confirmed fate is presented.

What Happened To Steve Rogers?

The character fans want most to return for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is easily Steve Rogers. While he’s not Captain America anymore, he was still shown to be alive as an old man. Considering both titular characters are his best friend, it’s natural to assume Steve will be showing up.

Unfortunately, Spider-Man: Far From Home has confused fans over Steve’s status due to him showing up in an In Memoriam collage, implying he might have died by now. The only way to know for sure is if the Disney+ series brings forward Steve’s confirmed fate and everyone watching will be waiting for this answer.
