A new trailer for The Falcon and The Winter Soldier teases the need for new heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Sam Wilson aka Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes aka Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) are being promoted from supporting characters to leading heroes in Phase 4. Their Disney+ series picks up after Avengers: Endgame and explores Captain America's former sidekicks teaming up for their own adventure. This will include Falcon attempting to take over the Captain America mantle.

The focus on Falcon and Winter Soldier comes after WandaVision elevated Scarlet Witch and Vision by letting them be the stars of an MCU story. While The Falcon and The Winter Soldier will primarily emphasize Sam and Bucky's stories, the Disney+ show will be filled with other characters. Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp) and Baron Zemo (Daniel Brühl) will return, as will War Machine (Don Cheadle). But the series will also introduce new heroes to the MCU, namely John Walker (Wyatt Russell) as the new Captain America.

In a brand new trailer for The Falcon and The Winter Soldier released by Marvel, the footage teases the need for more heroes. The trailer includes more banter from Bucky and Sam, but it opens with an unknown government official declaring the need for more heroes due to the vulnerable state of America. Check out the new footage below:

The line about America needing more heroes in the MCU appears to come at the same press conference expected to introduce John Walker as the new Captain America. The events of Avengers: Endgame - which The Falcon and The Winter Soldier takes place shortly after - left the Avengers' state unclear. At the very least, America is without some of its biggest heroes, with Iron Man and Black Widow dying and Steve Rogers growing old and possibly dying too. Using this as a means to introduce a new Captain America makes sense.

There are plenty of possibilities for new MCU heroes that The Falcon and The Winter Soldier can introduce beyond a new Captain America. Zemo's presence has sparked plenty of theories about the Thunderbolts emerging due to this show, and some are even hoping Wolverine shows up due to the story's presumed connection to the super-soldier program and visit to Madripoor. However, after fans waited to see Reed Richards, Mephisto, Blue Marvel, Magneto, Wonder Man, and many other new Marvel heroes debut in WandaVision, it might be best to temper expectations as to who will appear in the next MCU Disney+ show. Thankfully, we'll know soon enough who is and isn't in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier with its release so close.
