Marvel Studios' The Falcon and The Winter Soldier will not be released on Disney+ in August as previously announced. The first show made by Marvel Studios and set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will see Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan step into leading roles. Sam Wilson and Bucky's stories will continue after the events of Avengers: Endgame, with Sam getting the shield to become the new Captain America.

Fans have been eager to see what The Falcon and The Winter Soldier will be about ever since it was revealed that MCU shows were in-development for Disney+. Kevin Feige has said that these shows will be heavily connected to the ongoing MCU story, as they give supporting characters a chance to lead or introduce new ones, like US Agent (Wyatt Russell). This led to immense speculation over when the MCU Disney+ era will begin, and it was confirmed earlier this year that The Falcon and The Winter Soldier would be released in August. That was before coronavirus shut down production on The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, and it now appears Disney has quietly confirmed the series won't be released as planned.

Today, Disney (via Decider) revealed the full slate of movies, TV shows, and documentaries that will be released on Disney+ in August, but The Falcon and The Winter Soldier was not included. Disney and Marvel had yet to announce a specific release date for the first episode of the series. However, it was previously confirmed by CEO Bob Iger that it would arrive in August. With this delay, it remains unclear when The Falcon and The Winter Soldier will arrive.

The confirmation that The Falcon and The Winter Soldier won't be released in August is hardly a surprise at this point. Filming has been paused for months, and there has yet to be any confirmation about when it will begin again. It is known that the EU travel ban will not prevent Marvel Studios from taking production back overseas to finish, but Marvel's plans to complete filming haven't been revealed. There are only nine days of filming left according to reports, so it shouldn't take long for the series to wrap once production commences.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier will hopefully still be able to come out sometime in 2020, but that is far from guaranteed. Coronavirus cases are spiking across the United States and could make it impossible for a Marvel production to pick back up. At this point, the show is still listed as "Coming Fall 2020" on Disney+. This will be accurate if it can arrive sometime before the end of November. Since Marvel Studios is skipping the online version of San Diego Comic-Con 2020 and they don't have their own event like DC FanDome (yet), there's no telling when an official update on The Falcon and The Winter Soldier's release will come.
