The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's first two episodes topped the Nielsen streaming chart. After WandaVision's debut, all eyes looked to Marvel's next streaming series to see whether it was a fluke or not. It was proven quickly that it wasn't, with The Falcon and the Winter Solider's premiere becoming Disney+'s most watched debut ever. The series has consistently upped the stakes with each episode, introducing a new Captain America at the end of its first before pitting Bucky and Sam against the Flag Smashers in episode 2.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is nearing its finale, but that may not be the end of the line for the series. Disney will submit The Falcon and the Winter Soldier in the Best Drama Series category at the Emmys, hinting at the possibility of season 2 for the show. First, though, viewers will take in the finale and likely see Sam Wilson assume the mantle of Captain America after a tumultuous few weeks of being pit against John Walker, the U.S. government's choice for the role.

Doubts as to whether or not this story could be as popular as the groundbreaking WandaVision should be put to rest with these latest numbers. Nielsen revealed that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's first two episodes topped its streaming chart the week of March 22 through March 28. Both episodes were watched for a combined total of 628 million minutes.

Many of Marvel's Disney+ series are centered around characters who have yet to get their due in the main theatrical arm of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Their viability as solo players has been a huge question mark hanging over the debut of the various series, despite the fact that there would at least be a guaranteed audience tuning in. Now, both WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier have proven the MCU's streaming series can be just as popular as its blockbuster films.

If Marvel continues this trend, June's upcoming Loki could be the MCU's biggest show yet. Tom Hiddleston's character already has a massive built-in fanbase, and the series' larger implications for the MCU make it a must-see event. First, though, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is likely to make a big splash with its finale. Numbers have yet to be released for the rest of the series' episodes, and if they follow the trajectory of WandaVision's growing popularity during its nine-episode run, it's safe to say the finale will be the biggest episode yet.
