Marvel Studios has some ideas for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier season 2 in case it comes to fruition. Just two weeks after WandaVision, the MCU will be back on Disney+ with its new series starring Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan. This time, Steve Rogers' closest friends go on a brand new mission post-Infinity Saga.

The standard set by WandaVision is high for Marvel Studios' small-screen projects but based on initial reactions for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, it appears it will be able to stand on its own. This is despite being significantly different from its predecessor; after building on the mystical pocket of the MCU, the upcoming show will be more grounded, similar to the tone of Joe and Anthony Russo's Captain America: The Winter Soldier. And if the rest of the six-episode series is well-received, Feige and his team are ready to continue Sam and Bucky's adventures via a second season, something that director Kari Skogland is already wishing for.

During the virtual press conference for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (via Deadline), Feige was asked if there are plans for season 2. While he understandably didn't deny or confirm the possibility, he said that “if we’re able to do another one, there’s certainly ideas.” But, he emphasized that their focus was telling a solid story for the show's initial outing.

“We get asked (that question) much more in television, because people expect it to be like what they know before: Where’s season 2? We approached it like the movies: We better make this great, because we won’t be able to do another one.”

Baron Zemo the falcon and winter soldier theories

Feige says that it's essentially the same storytelling principle they used in their movies and WandaVision. However, it's worth noting that while there's no official word yet for a WandaVision season 2, its story is already confirmed to continue with Scarlet Witch appearing in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, while Monica Rambeau makes her big-screen debut on Captain Marvel 2. Vision and some of the supporting characters can still continue with their MCU arcs through other upcoming projects. Aside from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, it's unknown where else Sam and Bucky can pop up. Of course, there's the inevitable Avengers 5 film or any other ensemble projects, but those maybe a little too far out to shelve both characters. Given that, it makes sense that they could continue their adventures on the small screen before they eventually appear again on the big screen.

Narrative-wise, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has better long-term potential. As the title suggests, both Sam and Bucky are still operating using their old public personas, and chances are that by the end of season 1, they'd assume their Captain America and White Wolf mantles. But that's not going to be the end of their stories. In fact, it's only the beginning of their proper adventures as the next wave of MCU leaders paving the way for this new chapter for the franchise.
