Fans on Twitter come up with some great criticisms of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's new Captain America. Introduced at the end of the show's premiere, John Walker is the government's chosen replacement of Steve Rogers in the MCU after Sam passed on the opportunity and instead gave the shield up.

Marvel Studios' ongoing Disney+ series is tackling the legacy of the Captain America mantle in the franchise. While Sam was Steve's personal choice to be the next wielder of the shield, the superhero persona was ultimately given to Walker, who now goes around as the new Star-Spangled Avenger. With the backing of both the government and the people in-universe, the new Captain America's transition has been relatively smooth thus far in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. But like Sam and Bucky, fans of the franchise are understandably iffy about Walker.

Several Twitter users share their presumed criticisms of Walker making for some really great and funny takedowns of the character. They perfectly explain how The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's new Captain America seems like an okay guy, but a closer look would reveal that he really is not, backing up the idea that he's not worthy of wielding the shield. Check out the posts below:

What's interesting with Walker is, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier episode 2 actually tried to humanize him by exposing how vulnerable he was just before he went out to do a public event as Captain America. This was after his initial launch at the end of the premiere quickly drew backlash from fans who first, do not appreciate that the government is using the superhero persona as a PR tool again, and second, know that Sam is the rightful owner of the shield. Still, removing one's preconceived notion about Walker, he technically hasn't done anything straight-up villainous; he even approached Sam and Bucky to work together. But these tweets, which compile common real-life micro-aggressive comments online, crystalize why people are aggravated by him: he doesn't have Steve's strong morality; he doesn't stand for anything else that's not self-serving; he doesn't understand what it really means to be Captain America. And what's worse is, he truly believes he's doing the right things to be the hero that's worthy of following Steve's footsteps.

So far, Walker isn't exactly a bad guy in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, at least not yet. He has the same mission as Bucky and Sam — track down the Flag-Smashers. But there have been hints in his demeanor and words that indicate that he might ultimately be a traditional MCU villain and if one doesn't pay close attention, this is easily missable. For starters, the fact that he casually recruited Sam to be his wingman the same way he supposedly was to Steve was insulting. While Falcon was indeed one of Steve's most loyal allies, they were friends first and the old Captain America never saw or treated him as a side-kick. In conjunction, it was also a low blow that he subtly used the events of Captain America: Civil War to coerce the heroes to work with him.
