A young Steve Rogers eventually became the legendary Captain America. His accolades allowed him to establish a legacy for heroes of the future both in the comics and in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When Rogers put down his shield to retire, he gave it to his successor Sam Wilson who took over the mantle in both universes.

Although outside of the popular films, there might be some fans who are unaware when it comes to everything about the character. Facts that have been pulled from both the movies and the comics help shed a light on just who Sam Wilson really is.

His Costumes Slowly Transitioned From Ultimate To Mainline Colors

Although the Falcon has been prevalent in the MCU for a number of years, the character has maintained a consistent look. However, this look has improved and evolved as the franchise continued to have new entries in films.

When Falcon first appeared in The Winter Soldier film, his outfit was mostly inspired by the Ultimate comics. However, as he continued to show up in the films, his uniform started to appear more like the mainline comics. By the time of The Falcon & The Winter Soldier show, he wore colors reminiscent of his comic look.

Falcon In The Comics Can Speak To Birds

The Falcon and Redwing Marvel Cinematic Universe

During the films and television series, Falcon eventually got a flying drone named Redwing. This drone acts as an ally to Falcon and it offers different forms such as reconnaissance and extra support.

This was meant to act similarly to an actual bird named Redwing that appears in the comics. Originally, Falcon has the ability to talk to birds that aren't present in the films. In the MCU, he talks to his drone just as much.

He Connects With Captain America Due To Sharing The Same Values

This is present in both comics and films. The reason why he is offered the shield as a successor to the mantle doesn't have much to do with things like his abilities. Instead, it was because the character was capable of doing great things through his hard work and being a good person.

Rogers saw that within Wilson which is why he willingly gave his shield to him in both continuities. However, that doesn't mean the latter doesn't feel the pressure.

As shown in different continuities, Sam Wilson is the only Captain America who doesn't have anything enhancing him. As such, he had to make up for his lack of physical prowess with his other equipment such as his Falcon suit, his intellect and his martial prowess.

Through hard work, the character was eventually able to use the shield effectively in the comics and has taken down countless opponents from across the universe.

He Was Trained By Captain America In The Comics

During the films, it was established that Falcon was a part of the military. As such, he was capable of holding his own against countless opponents from soldiers to aliens from other worlds although he wasn't anywhere as good as Steve Rogers.

However, in the comics, he got a little extra boost from getting trained by Rogers. It made him a formidable threat who is arguably more dangerous than his incarnation in the films.

He Worked For The Mob In His Initial Debut

Before it was retconned as a result of the Red Skull constructing the persona, Sam Wilson was originally a part of the mob. Being a former criminal was a result of the death of his parents.

However, he eventually met Captain America and broke out of Red Skull's construction, becoming the Falcon that fans are aware of. In the MCU, his origins are more humble and simple as he met Steve Rogers while having his morning jog.

Consistently Pressured With The Captain America Mantle

As shown throughout The Falcon & The Winter Soldier, Sam Wilson is deeply affected by the weight that the shield has on his life. As he fought with Captain America through thick and thin, he would not know how to handle a mantle as heavy as Steve Rogers'.

This deep weight has affected Wilson in both the comics and the television series. Although he became Captain America in the comics eventually, he went on to gave it back to Rogers.

Relationship With The Winter Soldier

Although the characters are currently working together in the television series, it is clear it isn't as amicable as with Steve Rogers. The two characters were capable of working together although they butted heads in the recent comics and the MCU.

In the latter, they fought due to the legacy that is left behind by Steve Rogers. Bucky was affected in particular due to being a close friend to the original Captain America and the trauma he has experienced.

He Fought Against US Agent, Reluctantly

As shown during The Falcon & The Winter Soldier, it is established early on that their is a conflict between Sam Wilson and John Walker. Although they do fight in the comics, it seems that conflict may occur soon during the show.

In the comics, the reason behind their battle was due to the US Agent attacking him directly. He demanded that he give back the shield and stand down. Although US Agent actually respected Steve Rogers' decision, he went on to fight against it.

He Becomes Captain America

One of the most common facts about Sam Wilson and one of the more recent events of his character was his time as Captain America. Although he took the mantle reluctantly, he was eventually shown to be a worthy wielder of the shield as he stopped many villains.

He became one of the most prominent holders of the Captain America name. Although he eventually gave up the mantle, his legacy is felt across the entire Marvel brand.
