Marvel's The Falcon and the Winter Soldier footage description reveals details about Baron Zemo's return, Sam and Bucky's friendship and the MCU's new Captain America. A spinoff from Marvel Studios' Captain America movie trilogy, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier follows its two titular characters, Sam Wilson aka Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes aka Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan). The show was announced by Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige during the company's San Diego Comic-Con 2019 panel, with a late 2020 release date targeted. It's since been confirmed The Falcon and the Winter Soldier release date will be set for August on Disney+.

The first of Marvel Studios' television shows, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier started filming late last year and details have surfaced from the set via both official and unofficial photos. One of the more recent shoots for the series revealed a team of female villains set to take on Falcon and Winter Soldier, while previous set photos offered extensive looks at the Marvel Cinematic Universe's "new" Captain America, John Walker (Wyatt Russell). Although Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) gave his shield to Sam at the end of Avengers: Endgame, the U.S. government has their own plans for the Captain America mantle. Now, a description of new footage for the upcoming Marvel series reveals even more about what to expect from the show.

During The Walt Disney Company's 2020 shareholders meeting, new Falcon and the Winter Soldier footage was screened and ComicBook.com reported a breakdown of the video. The footage begins with Bucky visiting Captain America: Civil War villain Zemo (Daniel Brühl) in prison because he's investigating the restarted super soldier program. Though Zemo tries to activate Bucky's Winter Soldier brainwashing, it doesn't work (proving his deprogramming in Wakanda was a success). The next clip showcases the government's reveal of their new Captain America during an event that's decked out in red white and blue decorations; there's "a figure with the shield standing backstage draped in silhouette." ComicBook.com details how the footage concludes:

An action-packed montage is then shown, which showcases the action stuntwork and battles that will take place in the series. This includes Zemo fighting in his Marvel Comics mask. As Bucky points out, the two men are not friends; they're two guys who had a mutual friend (Steve Rogers) and now need to help one another.

Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

Based on the description, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Disney shareholders footage sounds like an extended version of the series' portion of the Marvel Disney+ Super Bowl TV spot, with a great deal of additional clips. That trailer featured Bucky confronting Zemo at an outdoor location, which means Zemo is either released or breaks out of prison. The shareholders footage also reveals Bucky's new mission has to do with the super soldier program, which has apparently been restarted. Meanwhile, Sam and Bucky not being friends in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier falls in line with what Mackie said recently about the relationship between the characters.

Still, even if Sam and Bucky aren't friends, their dynamic proved to be a fan-favorite part of Civil War as they bickered with each other whenever they were left alone together. Now that Steve is retired, it will be interesting to see how Sam and Bucky's friendship (or not-friendship) develops and how it's impacted by their mutual friend essentially being out of the picture. Further, considering the lack of resolution to Bucky and Steve Rogers' friendship in Avengers: Endgame, fans are no doubt curious to see how the show deals with the emotional fallout of Steve's decision. As production on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier continues and the show's August premiere date gets closer, fans will surely learn more about the Marvel Disney+ series.
