The Falcon and the Winter Soldier composer Henry Jackman says the final episode of the series takes the MCU into uncharted territory. Disney+'s second original Marvel series is set to wrap up its run in just over a week when the sixth and final episode airs on April 23. Right now, the trajectory for the show seems clear, with Bucky and Sam gearing up to take on John Walker and face off against the Flag Smashers one more time. Sam seems more than ready to reclaim the shield he gave to the US government at the start of the series, but how they get there remains a mystery.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has operated in a moral gray area when it comes to its antagonists. Both John Walker and the Flag Smashers started out with good intentions even if their methods of getting there are less than savory. Bucky and Sam have also waded into questionable territory in helping Baron Zemo escape from prison, but they remain the clear protagonists of the series. As Falcon and the Winter Soldier barrels towards its finale, though, the series is sure to continue this examination of intentions and morality and it sounds like it could be a game changer for the MCU.

Jackman spoke to Flickering Myth about scoring Falcon and the Winter Soldier for Marvel and he was asked about whether or not the series would be on the same level as WandaVision when it came to the final episode. Jackman says that viewers haven't even seen half of what the series is capable of and that, by the time the final episode rolls around, Marvel will have gone places they've never been before.

It's a very difficult question to answer. I would say...people have seen half the show, but you haven't seen half of what goes down. There's more than half...in terms of the content and the implications of what happens. And so I would say by the time you get to the material that is addressed in that last episode, I would say Marvel are going places they have not been and that's all I can say.

After the devastating ending of Falcon and the Winter Soldier's fourth episode, clear lines have been drawn in terms of who is good and who is bad. Still, even though a confrontation between Bucky, Sam, and John Walker is inevitable, there's no telling what the series has in store for its final two episodes. On top of a surprise cameo slated for episode five, both showrunner Malcolm Spellman and producer Nate Moore have touted the fifth episode as the series' strongest and one that may make fans cry.

While Jackman's comments may send fan expectations skyrocketing, it's important to note that what he says seems to imply a game-changer that is more thematic in nature rather than something that will change the very fabric of the MCU. WandaVision fell into the same trap of high expectations leading many to be disappointed when the series finale did not live up to what they had imagined in their heads, but The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has been proven to be very straightforward in terms of plot. What the finale could look like remains a mystery, but, like WandaVision, it's sure to be more character-focused and bring Sam and Bucky's stories to a satisfying conclusion before their next onscreen adventure.
