Sam Wilson officially became the MCU's Captain America in the finale of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, sporting a very different suit to that of Steve Rogers. Set around six months after Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson was gifted the shield and Captain America mantle by Chris Evans' Steve Rogers, Phase 4's The Falcon and the Winter Soldier saw Wilson grapple with the idea of becoming Captain America, though he eventually decides to embrace his new MCU role. Relinquishing his position as the MCU's Falcon, Wilson needed a brand-new superhero costume to complete his transition, and one showed up courtesy of Wakanda's Dora Milaje.

Sam Wilson showcased his brand-new Captain America suit in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's series finale, "One World, One People." The suit, made from vibranium and fit with Wilson's trademark retractible wings, kept the best parts of his Falcon suit combined with Rogers' old Captain America suits. Marvel Studios stayed fairly close to the design of Wilson's Captain America from Marvel Comics, though some changes were made to better fit the live-action MCU. Keeping the iconic mixture of red, white, and blue, Sam Wilson's suit in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier still upheld the values of Captain America, though brought a modern spin to the traditional attire.

Sam's Captain America Suit Provides More Protection

Throughout his tenure in the MCU, Chris Evans' Steve Rogers sported several varying Captain America suits, though none of these put emphasis on the suit being armor, as Rogers himself was protected by the super-soldier serum. Since Sam Wilson hasn't taken the super-soldier serum, his Captain America suit featured in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier puts much more focus on the costume acting as protection from outside forces - much like the Black Panther's vibranium suit does. While his wings were kept on the suit from his time as the MCU's Falcon, several changes have been made to better fit Wilson's new role in the MCU.

Instead of gloves, Wilson now sports protective gauntlets, his visor has sensor technology, and Wilson appears to wear a chest plate of armor to supply more protection. Along with the wings, Sam Wilson's trusted Redwing has also been incorporated into the suit, highlighting the fact that he is much more of a tactical fighter compared to Steve Rogers' strength, though Wilson did spend an extensive amount of time training to better use the shield. With no extraordinary superpowers to speak of, the fact that Wilson's suit in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is more protective than Rogers' previous suits is a necessity.

Sam Wilson's New Captain America Suit Resemble's Steve's Stealth Suit

Despite Sam Wilson's suit from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier being an impressive upgrade for the MCU's new Captain America, set photos from Captain America: New World Order have revealed that Wilson is set to get a new suit in the upcoming Phase 5 film. While it will be a shame to see the back of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's suit, the new suit's design perhaps confirms some interesting elements of the project. The suit appears to be a combination of the suit from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Steve Rogers' stealth suit from Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Rogers sported his stealth suit for espionage missions while working for SHIELD - showcased in Captain America: The Winter Soldier's opening moments aboard the Lemurian Star. The darker tones of the suit helped to camouflage Captain America, so perhaps Sam Wilson will need a similar design for an espionage mission in Captain America: New World Order. The suit will see the return of blue as the primary color, with the reds and whites muted slightly, whereas Wilson's suit in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was primarily white, perhaps suggesting Wilson will be taking more inspiration from his Captain America predecessor.

Everything We Know About Captain America 4

Captain America 4 and Serpent Society

Set to release on May 3, 2024, Captain America: New World Order will mark the feature film debut of the MCU's new Captain America. While it's unknown whether Sebastian Stan and Emily VanCamp will be returning as Bucky Barnes and Sharon Carter, Danny Ramirez will be reprising his role of Joaquin Torres from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, becoming the MCU's new Falcon. Mackie will also be joined by Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Tim Blake Nelson and Liv Tyler will be returning from 2008's The Incredible Hulk as the Leader and Betty Ross, respectively.

Ross' father, Thaddeus Ross, will also be returning, though Harrison Ford has now been cast in the role following William Hurt's tragic 2022 passing, and Captain America: New World Order will debut a new mutant in the MCU in the form of Shira Haas' Sabra. It's speculated that the Serpent Society will be the villains of New World Order, and the film is likely to take on very political tones as Thaddeus Ross will be revealed as the President of the United States. Following his appearance in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Captain America: New World Order will provide a much more intense storyline for Sam Wilson's Captain America.
