Sebastian Stan shares that his character Bucky Barnes will comedically interact with technology in The Falcon & The Winter Soldier. The show was originally planned to premiere in August of 2020 as the first installment of MCU shows on Disney+, but was delayed due to production constraints caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. While the overall Phase 4 plans are remaining the same, the first few releases including WandaVision, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, and Black Widow have had to be shuffled around. Now, the show will premiere on March 19 on Disney+, two weeks after the WandaVision finale.

MCU characters Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) are returning to play their characters in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. The show will take place after Avengers: Endgame as both Bucky and Sam deal with the major changes caused by the fallout of events in that film. While the show has been promoted as an odd-couple show, early looks suggest a power struggle as the two work to deal with the loss of their friend and the difficult transition in their superhero roles – including a possible skirmish over Captain America's shield.

In an interview with EW, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier stars opened up about what viewers can expect from the show. Bucky's adjustment will not only focus on adjusting to life without his friend Captain America, but also with modern technology. The adjustment will be a comedic one, says Stan: "How does that guy function in 2021, in the times of today? And there's comedic parts: How does he deal with technology? Is this guy ordering Postmates at home?"

While Bucky deals with transitioning into a tech-filled world, Sam will be dealing with his own hurdles as well. Sam will be faced with the immense responsibility and honor of becoming the next Captain America. The idea of having a Black man as Captain America is a huge opportunity for Marvel and a big responsibility for Mackie. As the show explores these heavy themes relevant to today's society, watching Bucky attempt to figure out modern technology should provide moments of levity, striking a nice balance. Marvel's long demonstrated a knack of blending comedy and drama, and it sounds like The Falcon and The Winter Soldier will be another example of that skill.

So far, in the MCU, Stan and Mackie have largely played the role of sidekicks to Captain America. Now, in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, fans have the pleasure of diving deeper into the characters individually and as a reluctant friendship. Having their own show means more time to see the usually serious and stern Bucky deal with more mundane things, like using smartphones and using technology for things other than important missions. On top of that, seeing the partnership between Bucky and Sam evolve as they are thrusted together into this new dynamic is sure to bring about some seriously amusing moments.
