Warning! Contains SPOILERS for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier episode 5, "Truth."

Bucky Barnes gives Sam Wilson a box with a gift from Wakanda in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier episode 5 - but does it contain new Falcon wings, a Captain America suit, or something else? While Sam was handed the shield by Steve Rogers at the end of Avengers: Endgame, Falcon & Winter Soldier has given viewers a new Captain America in the form of John Walker. However, after his villainous turn at the end of Falcon & Winter Soldier episode 4, where he brutally killed Nico in an incident witnessed by the entire world, his time as Cap is over, which in turn means Sam can finally take on the mantle.

Bucky and Sam's bond is stronger than ever in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier episode 5, "Truth," which extends to the former giving the latter a gift. Earlier in the episode, Bucky handed Zemo over to the Wakandans, allowing him to once again face justice for his crimes. In return, he called in a favor, having Wakanda make something for Sam, but the episode never reveals what it is - instead ending with a tease of him opening the box.

Given the timing of the moment and the music that swells up around it, it's pretty clear there's a new Captain America costume in the box Bucky gives to Sam, likely one made at least partly of vibranium, but it will also feature new wings as well. Sam has already reclaimed the shield by this point, and the episode devotes a lot of time to discussing the notion of a Black man being Captain America. While Isaiah Bradley may not agree, it's clear that those around Sam believe in him, and most importantly he begins to believe in himself, even getting a Rocky-style training montage with the shield. To that end, then, him being given a new Captain America suit at the end is the completion of this part of the journey, and now he is fully ready to become Captain America just as Steve wanted, except now it's on his terms.

Sam and Bucky with Box in Falcon and Winter Soldier episode 5

As for what Sam's Captain America costume will look like, this has been revealed by toy leaks. The costume that Bucky has made by Wakanda is the perfect blend of Falcon and Captain America - it retains the wings of the former, but gives it the latter's color scheme, with a particular focus on it being white (especially the wings) and blue (predominantly the legs), accompanied by some red accents, not too dissimilar from one Sam wears as Cap in Marvel Comics. This makes a lot of sense for the kind of Cap Sam will be, prioritizing the purity (white), justice, and perseverance (blue) those colors of the flag symbolize.

Given the suit is made in Wakanda, then it's fair to assume it will be made of vibranium, much like Cap's shield and as previously seen with Black Panther's suit. This is important because, unlike Steve, Bucky, and now John Walker, Sam isn't (and never will be) a super soldier. Having a vibranium Captain America suit will give him an extra level of protection, while the new wings being vibranium make Falcon even stronger too - a key component to help him feel distinct as Cap, but also because Falcon & Winter Soldier episode 5 had his previous ones broken by John Walker. That's not going to be easy to do once they're made of vibranium.

There's also something particularly fitting about the fact that Sam gets his new Captain America suit from Bucky. Not only does this strengthen the bond of the show's eponymous duo, but it also gives a greater tie back to Steve Rogers; by having one of his best friends get the new Cap suit for the other, then Bucky and Steve are both are part of the legacy that Sam will be forging as the new Captain America. He will be his own man, of course, but it's also nice to know he will carry something of both of them with him. The tease of Sam's new Captain America suit in the box also sets up The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's finale, where he'll go head-to-head with John Walker, who is shown in a post-credits scene to be building his own version of Captain America's shield. Similarly, it fits with a common superhero trope of the hero getting their proper suit at the end of the first season or movie. With all that, then the box Bucky gives to Sam, and the Captain America costume inside it, helps to bring Sam's story towards its conclusion, while leaving room to grow as in a potential The Falcon and the Winter Soldier season 2.
