New set photos from The Falcon and The Winter Soldier confirm Georges St-Pierre is returning as Captain America: The Winter Soldier villain Batroc. Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) played important roles in the Captain America franchise, but Phase 4 will see them lead their own Marvel Cinematic Universe production. They will be the stars of Marvel Studios' first Disney+ original series in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

Thanks to the hour-long six-episode format of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, though, Marvel Studios is bringing a lot more to the table. Emily VanCamp is returning as Sharon Carter, as is Daniel Brühl as Baron Zemo. Neither of them has been in an MCU project since Captain America: Civil War. As exciting as the returning characters are, there will also be new additions, such as John Walker, aka US Agent (Wyatt Russell). But, now we know of one more familiar face who is set to appear.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier recently resumed production in Atlanta after its coronavirus shutdown and set photos have now confirmed the return of Batroc. Georges St-Pierre is heavily featured in new set photos posted by Just Jared, sporting Batroc's signature purple and gold color scheme. The photos also feature VanCamp back on set as Sharon and Desmond Chiam as his unknown character.

The return of Batroc the Leaper was previously rumored for The Falcon and The Winter Soldier but now fans have evidence of his appearance. It is unclear what role he will play in the series, but him being on set with Sharon is intriguing nonetheless. He was last seen captured by SHIELD but it was expected he escaped as part of the Hydra takeover. Now, could Batroc potentially make a turn to be more of a hero and work with Sharon, or is his presence with her a sign that she might be in danger? Either option is enticing and will be fun to see play out when The Falcon and The Winter Soldier arrives.

With the confirmation of Batroc's return, he becomes the latest example of how deep Marvel Studios is going to connect the Disney+ MCU shows. Someone like Batroc might not ever have a future in the movies, but the episodic format of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier gives it enough time to include him. With a professional fighter like St-Pierre back in the role too, hopefully this means that he will be featured in a standout action sequence or two. Batroc's fight with Captain America didn't last too long in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but it was still quite impressive. Seeing how Falcon or Bucky or the new Captain America stand up to Batroc could be a nice litmus test to see how their skills in combat match up to Steve Rogers.
