Marvel Studios' The Falcon and the Winter Soldier actor Daniel Brühl starts filming scenes, confirming he'll finally officially be called Baron Zemo. Brühl originated the Marvel Cinematic Universe character of Helmut Zemo in Captain America: Civil War. A Sokovian Armed Forces colonel, Zemo was the catalyst for the rift between Captain America (Chris Evans) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.). Fans were disappointed that Zemo never fully became the Marvel Comics villain Baron Zemo, who dons a purple mask in the antagonist's classic costume. But Civil War won't be the last MCU fans see of the Marvel villain.

At San Diego Comic-Con 2019, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige announced The Falcon and the Winter Soldier TV show will premiere on Disney+ in Fall 2020. In addition to returning characters Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Feige also confirmed Baron Zemo would be back. During the panel, Marvel showed a video to announce Brühl's return and featured the actor in a comics-accurate Baron Zemo costume. More information about The Falcon and the Winter Soldier arrived at D23, where the series further confirmed Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp) and new character John Walker aka U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell). The Marvel show started filming a month ago, but now Brühl officially joins the production.

On Instagram, Brühl revealed he's now filming on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier TV show by posting a photo of his set chair, which confirms his character will finally adopt the comics-accurate name of Baron Zemo. In Civil War, Brühl's character was never referred to as Baron Zemo, only Helmut Zemo since the character's origin was altered. Check out Brühl's post below.

This confirmation means The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will officially introduce a more comic book accurate version of Baron Zemo. That was widely assumed, based on the fact that the Baron Zemo mask and costume for the Disney+ series had previously been revealed and was much more comics-accurate. But the Baron Zemo moniker is now officially confirmed - and indicates Zemo has been busy since fans last saw him. It's unclear how Baron Zemo will factor into the story of Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which will see Sam Wilson become Captain America after Steve Rogers left the shield to him. No doubt, there's bad blood between Winter Soldier and Zemo considering Bucky Barnes was a pawn in the villain's plot to drive a wedge between Captain America and Iron Man.

No matter what role Baron Zemo plays in the plot of the series, the comics-accurate mask, costume and name confirm Marvel Studios will address complaints fans had about the Zemo character in Civil War. Zemo stands out as one of the MCU's villains that got the most short-changed by the character's live-action adaptation, so fans are likely excited to see a more well-developed and comic book accurate version in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Still, they'll have to wait a little longer for the show to premiere next fall.
