Season 2 of Edens Zero, the anime adaptation of the latest manga series by Hiro Mashima, Fairy Tail and Rave Master's creator, has landed on Crunchyroll. After the first season of this epic sci-fi adventure was released on Netflix, season 2 finds a new home on the leading anime streaming platform, where it will certainly be a highlight of Crunchyroll's Spring 2023 lineup.

Edens Zero is a unique mix of sci-fi themes and other elements that are common in Mashima's works, such as magic and time travel. The protagonist is Shiki, a human boy who was raised on a theme park planet called Granbell in a region of space called Sakura Cosmos. Granbell is inhabited only by robots, and Shiki was raised by his "grandpa", Ziggy, who turns out to be a legendary hero and explorer known as the Demon King. After Ziggy' death, Shiki inherits his Ether Gear, a mysterious power that allows him to manipulate gravity, and his spaceship, the Edens Zero. To fully activate the ship and fulfill his dream of traveling outside the Sakura Cosmos to meet the wish-granting god, Mother, Shiki has to recruit his grandpa's former crew members, the Four Shining Stars.

Season 1 of Edens Zero showed Shiki tracking down and recruiting the Shining Stars along with his other friends and companions, content creator Rebecca Bluegarden and scientist Weisz Steiner. The crew of the Edens Zero is now ready to embark on the dangerous journey to Mother, but more perils and enemies await them in Season 2. At the time of writing, the first two episodes of Edens Zero Season 2 have been released, introducing one of the main villains of the series, "Dark Alchemist" Drakken Joe, the boss of the Sakura Cosmos' criminal underworld. Joe is targeting the Edens Zero and its crew, having set his sight on a precious power that he wants to steal.

Fans of Fairy Tail and Rave Master may find the characters of this story very familiar. Mashima's character design for Edens Zero borrowed from Fairy Tail just like the latter did from Rave Master. Shiki looks very similar to Natsu, Rebecca is a Lucy look-alike, and the cat Happy appears with the same look and name as he did in Fairy Tail. The list goes on, and Mashima's passion for introducing divergent timelines and alternate universes in his stories creates an exciting feeling that all his characters and stories exist in a shared multiverse.
